Is intensive PLO8 affecting the NLH game ? Is intensive PLO8 affecting the NLH game ?

Hello , I almost never play PLO or NLO8, since a year and a half i almost exclusively play PLO8( 10 years NLH background). Recreationnal player but always looking to improve. Play like 1 or 2 hours a day cash game and small buy in tourneys, more when i have time for.

The point is , I was pretty solid at nlh ,before to discover plo8. Now i totally suck in NLH, lol. Anyone experiencing the same ? reasons ? is it due to the 4 cards, is it the split pot nature of the game + " pot" nature which allows to go after two way draws ? I feel like Ilarie Sahamies who said in an interview during the PKR heads up chamionship ( 10 k buy in ) " I cant play NLH , you only have two cards !".

I can see that some PLO8 tourney successfull players are as successfull in PLO8 as they are in NLH ( source : sharscope & co ).

Is it just a question of alternating between both ? Im afraid to perform mediocre in both sides instead of being very good in 1 of both variants ( nlh / plo8 ). Curious to hear your thoughts.

Ask Vandirek the o8 player who took down a million + recently in scoop main I think it was.

I actually think o8 players can often become/are great nlhe players.

The personal battle for me is that I just prefer the 4 card games event though I ultimately know that nlhe is where all the money is.

If you stop working on your NLHE game of course it will affect it.

Interesting point. I guess you get better at identifying and seeing backdoor flush/ wheel draws lol the issue is that if a plo8/nlo8 player gets an A2off in NLH its almost worthless, and i still get excited by that hand. Some major adaptations have to be made for the transition.

I also do prefer to play with 4 cards !!!

A2o is worthless?! It's a reraising hand! But maybe that's why i suck at nlhe online these days. Since I made the switch to omaha full time i've just donated at holdem but I put 0 work in and only really play big comps that have a lot of variance in them now and are probably too tough for me. I think maybe I should just eradicate them completely, seems impossible tho. But small steps, I did resist playing the main yesterday, it was hard tho!
