Buy in for 4/8 LO8 live game Buy in for 4/8 LO8 live game

I was wondering what I should be buying in for a 4/8 LO8 with 6/12 kill. The casino's min is $50. I have been buying in with $100. I am beginning to think this isn't a good buy in. I don't know if $200 is the better buy in or $300. Any suggestions? Thanks. Also, mods if there is a thread already going please put it there. I searched for one, but didn't see one. Thanks!!

I go with 20 or 40 bets when I play online. 40 is better for not having to reload.

I would feel completely lost and rather annoyed at myself if I only had $50 in front of me at any time during the game. besides, I always like to have enough chips in front of me *at all times* because each hand that I play could be the hand that I'm going to need/want a lot of big bets for.

In this game and due to its kill factor, I would buy in for $300. It's limit poker so there's no debate or concern like there might be if this was a no limit game, so, I guess it's just preference at this point---somewhere between $200-300, I just prefer the high end.

Yeah I guess buying in for $100 is dumb. I am just a recreational player, but like everyone, I like to win when I play. So I need to start buying in for more.

I would buy in for $200, and then add another $100 on if I got below $100.

I don't think it would matter much in a game with $1 chips, but it annoys me when people buy in for way too much in a limit game. (Like $3000 in a 20/40 game.) It yields no strategic advantage, yet it makes game look intimidating to recreational players who might then feel like they can't afford to play in it if everyone has much bigger stacks than them.

These people also feel like they can spread their chips stack into the other players' areas, making the game physically less comfortable.

Yeah I noticed a guy at my table with like $700, which is what he bought in for. I was wondering why would you want to buy in that much for. Plus he had a lot of white chips. I thought it was strange.

Agree you should buy in for $300+ due to the kill.

The deeper you are the better. You can use you stack to apply pressure to other smaller stacks.

Reasonable chance the guy with 700 and lots of whites just carried his stack from another table.

I doubt it. It was the only game going since it started at noon when the poker room opened. It is a small casino. Unless he won big at the craps table or roulette.

It's limit.

Buy in for $200. 2 racks is plenty, but reload when in the $100 range. If you're playing correctly and not seeing every other flop, you shouldnt fall below $100 to frequently. Besides, let the chip runners do their job.

I play 30 hours a week in a 4/8 half kill. 3 racks is excessive.

My rule of thumb for LO8 is to buyin for 25 x the BB (i.e. $200 here) Given there is a half-kill to 6/12 you could consider buying in for more, but I don't think it's that big a deal.

So I agree with those who've said $200. As far as big chip stacks scaring away the recreational players, I suppose that might be the case in smaller limit games.

Middle or higher limit I'm assuming larger stacks attract some of the bad players who want to gambool it up and see big pots, and assume they'd be turned off by a table with everyone sitting on "dinky" stacks.

Sounds right to me. If I get too low, I can rebuy, but if I win I have to keep all my chips on the table. Anyone winning big becomes conspicuous. No advantage I can see to being obviously well funded in a casino.

$100 as a buy-in is fine for me for a $4/$8 game. If I get below about $40, I just re-buy. Or if its a kill pot and I'm in good position, I might re-buy.

If it's live, limit, and full-ring, I buy-in for 25 big bets every time.
