Edit: Sure, he can bluff raise us on the flop, but that's going to be costly if he's wrong and I'm generally going to play that as if it's the goods.
i agree with unknown.

Defo not a must bet although i would c bet sometimes. depends on the villains. you're leaving urself open to get bluffed rasied. If i was 1 of the villains i would often check raise a lot if i thought hero was solid.

heros rarely getting value on later streets versus hands he beats and is beat a decent % of the time when called on the flop. checking disguising heros hand more and will get more value from turn/river bluffs and top pair or backdoor worse flushes.

Re: $22 PLO8 - early game river spot

If he´s got a J, KJ or KK i think he would have played less passive on flop and/or turn

I choose to bet the flop cuz if checked and he bets turn and river i´d be completely lost and lots of times the flop bet will scoop the pot from the A2xx type of hands

i opted to check the turn cuz if he´s hand is Jxxx or QTxx we have some added more equity to our hand

one question

if he checks the river do we bet or check behind ?

Call river with no reads for sure.

Flop I am fine with checking or betting (I prob check most of the time since in pos). If you're going to bet I would bet a little bigger bc it makes it a lot harder for them to bluff, and you can happily fold to a raise. Probably bet like 400.

Bet river if checked to. Only time I wouldn't is if i knew villain was tricky/aggro.

Billy,

You want to try and calldown for value because he might be blurring? Seems like an easy way to get pwnd, imo. I think he's less likely to bluff us by raising flop than he is if we check flop and open the door. And calling down is likely to be more expensive than betting flop.

I mean, you're never checking a J on the flop, right?

Agree flip bet needs to be bigger. 400 prob about right or a bit more.

Let there be range please . . .

Flop is a standard bet on this board three ways. Villain's calling range includes any KKxx, KJxx, Jxxx (though this is most likely c/r'ing), QTxx, AQTx, and even stuff like AKTx or AKQx.

On turn I see no reason to fire a second bullet as all the QTxx hands have gotten there and now more of villain's range is beating you than not, yet you picked up another potential way to win with the backdoor flush (and of course an A river is nice). Betting "to see where you're at" is overrated. I'm not too worried about villain pot-bet bluffing the river as pot-size bluffs on this board are rare. You're much more likely to see a value bet by hands that beat you as villain should see this board as too scary for you to call with AAxx.

River is an easy call, though it screams value-town. I'd expect to win this less than half the time, but often enough to make it profitable. Villain may easily bet QTxx here or even some donkey Jxxx that didn't fill, not fearing the backdoor flush, and even (very rarely but often enough to add a little value to our hand) air. In the face of a potential pot bet after your turn check I would probably fold, but may find a call depending on read of villain from earlier experience.

If checked to on river it is an easy bet. Villain is almost never checking a better hand here but will call with a lot of the above (QTxx, Jxxx, & weaker backdoor flushes).

nah depends on the villain...i mean if he fires turn and river its prolly a fold v most ppl. Just saying i would sometimes check flop sometimes bet depending on table image villains etc

And i would also sometimes check a jack on the flop yeah
