Why is there no NLO8 at the WSOP? Why is there no NLO8 at the WSOP?

That may be true. However, the number of casinos that spread the game would be that many more than play the no limit version at this point. Also it's much easier to take a popular form of hi/low and convert it to a pot limit version when so many people had played pot limit omaha hi and limit hi/lo for so many years. A poster made a great point quite that the game is based around pot limit structure or limit structure and just doesn't work well in a no limit format. You are right, the major flaw in my theory is what you stated. But what i wrote is really only a theory and that is really the only flaw in it. If you look at it objectively then the rest makes some sense.

I need to stop now and make sure you know that I'm not trying to argue the merits of the game because I know that's what it's starting to sound like. I really only meant to voice my thoughts about why it hasn't caught on and part of my opinion seeps out in that. For that i apologize. I also tried to offer suggestions as to how you can try to help move the game forward. Big O is still probably years and years from being considered a bracelet event but they have made great strides in getting notice for the game and creating a buzz. NL08 needs that buzz to start. I love PLO8 but I have to be real about the fact that it's probably never going to catch on as a staple game in cardrooms.

NLHE is the safe game that most players comprehend. PLO is the action game. PLO8 can be a decent action game but tends to clean the fish faster, perhaps too fast for the game to be sustainable. And my personal opinion is that the NL version of 08 would kill the action that the pot limit structure creates. Not to mention it would fry the fish at a blinding rate if they didn't catch on quick. That is only an opinion though and maybe i'll be shown to be dead wrong.

I know that a game went for a short time at hawiian gardens in LA. I would suggest asking BUZZ about that game, how it went, and if it was sustainable. That would probably give you a great starting point for getting the game going in a live setting.

Pre black friday I was mainly a PLO8 player I prefered it over NLO8. But the more O8 events in the WSOP the better imo. Im not advocating a NLO8 event if it eliminates one of the PLO8 events im just saying if the WSOP considers adding more bracelet events they should at least consider NLO8.

I thought no-limit Omaha-8 was working. For months there were several tables of no-limit Omaha-8 at Hawaiian Gardens casino (southeast LA county). I liked the game. They added it to their tournament schedule and I played it both as a tournament game and as a ring game. And then one week I went to HGC and there was no no-limit Omaha-8 table, just a waiting list with enough names to start a table. But they didn't start a table. And that was more or less the end of it. They kept a waiting list for a while, but as the no-limit game was not actually offered week after week, the waiting list gradually waned. I don't think there still is a waiting list for no-limit Omaha-8 anymore. I have played some pot-limit Omaha-high (and also some $4/$8/kill Omaha-8) the last couple of times I've gone to Hawaiian Gardens.

After reading this thread, I've realised I was completely clueless about NLO8... I thought it was a game with way too much variance to make it interesting in a tournament format... But some people stated that variance was bigger in PLO8 than in NLO8 !!!???

As for the question asked in the OP, I'd say that since the WSOP held chinese poker events for a couple of years in the past, they could definitely try a NLO8 event !

The 2012 schedules are out. Not only the WSOP but the Goloden Nugget and Binions. There are over 150 tournaments in June and still not a single NLO8.
Now look at PokerStars Weekly $215s this last weekend. Which games drew the most participants? #1 - NLH, #2 - PLO, #3 - NLO8! The 3rd most popular online tournament game there is but not even the Golden Nugget (who are very liberal with their game selection this year) will schedule it.

broken jia- you wouldn't get many support because of the high variance/"gamble" element to this game. This isn't the case in NLO8, I would argue that NLO8 has LESS variance than PLO8.
i laugh cos texas is nl...

.
i dont understand why so many of you are bagging nlo8...
its such a pure game...
ultimately you want to be able to make the player pay the ultimate bet for their draws/cards...
I think you would find much of the top o8 reg's preferring nl to pl...
when the cards are good the chips go all in...

NL is also a much more purer game of catching players out with all low cards...
low is strong, but not god when you go all in pre...
The many weaknesses of players around the low, is more emphaised in NL...

As to the comment that 1/2 lo8 had more players than 1/2 nlo8 its not really a fair comparison. 1/2 lo8 is about the equivalent stake of .25/.50 or .1/.25 nlo8. Of course there will be be more traffic at lower stakes.

I don't have as much of a problem with it as some regs...billyg, ichbin, etc. My fear is that it will erode the PL offerings at some point. I mean we have all seen the LOL quality of the $1500 PLO8 offering at the Series. I just fear that if a fish/NLtard sees a $1500 PLO8 and a $1500 NLO8 on the schedule they will pick one over the other.

Sadly if that happens PL will probably be less attended than NL.

Having said that I think the better O8 players will adjust and be rewarded. I can only imagine the first hand of a $1500 NLO8 WSOP event and seeing NL players shoveling chips into the middle with A2xx "cuz they have A2 and thats da nutz". Could be very profitable (albeit swingy) for the regs.

Now I would love to see a Big O. I have grown to enjoy the game and still think the edges exist in that game as in standard 4 card.

I've seen an interview with Farha and he expresses that Omaha 8 should be played limit. I wonder if a lot of the old school players agree with him.

Since I've started playing both PLO8 and NLO8 I can't stand to play limit anymore.

I started to play NLO8 because I would see it online and asked Chase Edwards about it. He told me it was a great form of O8 because you can protect your high hands. I wish there were more middle limit tourneys on Stars as I really enjoy the nightly $33.

I really hope to see some NLO8 tourneys at the WSOP.

I do not see NLO8 on the WSOP schedule this year either. Is any other casino offering NLO8 tourneys this summer?

I'd obviously like to see a NL O8 Event at the series.

Instead I settle for the PL O8 Events they run. I'll be there this year on the 23rd of June at 4 or 5 p.m., gonna late reg.

Read most of the previous posts and side with the progressives that would like to see more games added to the series. There are so many redundant games at the same buy-in level. It couldn't hurt to ADD more game type variants and KEEP the redundant base.

With NL O8, some pots would/could get pretty out of control and I could see some hands taking 10+ minutes to play-out and correctly allocate the pot, especially with some of the dealers I've seen at the series, unfortunately.

I would love to see a Big O, Congress as some call it, event as well, as the cash games are always very lively, love the characters that show up there. They changed the waitlist system last year however, to where it was harder to sign-up using a psyeudonym, like crusher or big fish, etc.

Someone make a damn petition already

Too many regs that get angry that they get called down when they have aces .

Nl omaha hi lo is one of the most aggressive games out there. Which will result into aggression on the table.
