So, played $33 Bovada 6 Max PL0 MTT, and had this hand come up, thought I would post it here.. more of a tournament strategy question than anything.

We are 4 handed with following Payouts
4th-$535
3rd-$755
2$1,000
1st $1455

Stack sizes are as follows, with Blinds 3/6K and no antes

Cutoff(Hero) 265K
Button 550K
Small Blind 180K
Big Blind 220k

we are dealt JJ107 and because middle cards are okay in this game I open for 12,777

Button calls, small Blind folds, and Big Blind calls..

flops comes an interesting KQ9 so we have the very vulnerable nuts..

small big blind check and we opt to check because we don't want to get raised and have to play a big pot with no redraws.. rather wait for a safe turn to make our move and checking disguises our hand when board runs out favorably.

Thoughts on checking flop?

Button bets 28k

and small Big Blind snap clicks pot to 128kish.. pretty much committing himself to the hand.

Hero tanks and clicks which button.

You guys are my 2+2 family, so thought I would post this here, even though it's a PLO hand, Mods please move if necessary.

Pre-flop is fine.
I'd call the first bet, but the re-pot has me concerned you could be getting freerolled by a straight with a heart redraw. If one of the players has a set and hearts (the SB?), you are definitely an underdog and button may be regretting his open if he has middle hearts. I fold and hope for a better spot.

I doubt I'd check the flop because you are blocking the straight. There are many hands that have some equity (small fd for example) that can't continue vs a bet.

As played, I think folding is OK.

I can't speak for anyone else, but I have no problem leaving your thread in the forum where you posted it. As you are aware, your starting hand is poor for Omaha-8, but fine for Omaha-hi. And after this particular flop, I think the hand plays the same in either O8 or O-hi.

The only difference would seem to be the kind of hands opponents would see the flop with in O-hi as compared to O8.

I would bet the flop. There's 41.331k in the pot after betting round #1.
  • my math: 12777*3+3000=41,331
I'd want to give anyone poor odds to draw for hearts. I think if you bet about 3/4 of the pot, let's say 31,777, you do that.

I'd bet 31,777.

Since that's close to what I would have bet with the flopped straight, my guess is Button either also has the flopped straight or want's us to think so.

Ouch! My guess is SB also has the flopped straight plus a good redraw.

Fold. I think we're playing for a third or a half of the pot and might get blitzed.

Oops. Small blind must not have folded on the first betting round (since he's check raising on the second).

Thanks for feedback all, consensus seems to be bet flop and as played I should fold...

Called off and was up against Buttons top set and Big Blind's nut flush draw.

Luckily for me the right draw got there with the 9 of spades on the turn and it was GG for our hero in 3rd place for $755
