what factors to consider when rebuying / adding on?

field size / strength? payout? blind structure? confidence to win? etc?

i have been playing a lot of plo8 tournaments lately, particularly a daily 200 gtd. buy-in is 2.20

the first 2 times i played this tournament i got to the final table (7th then 5th) without rebuying or adding on

but lately i have had some bad run of cards. either not getting anything to play or whiffing flops. so i find myself painfully folding and folding until I'm forced to shove my stack in less than ideal situations. ive never entertained the idea of rebuying or adding on...

so i guess my question is are you rebuying / adding on if u were in my shoes?
tell me I'm an idiot for not doing so in the first place. i can take it. or am i ok with not because variance? i don't know.

I'm not very experienced playing plo8 tourneys so i figured playing this one would get me more acclimated to the intricacies of tournament play as I'm more of a cash game player (although i need help in that regard too)

You should really be adding-on by default at the start of these tournaments, you want to get as many chips from possible while the bad players are most active

If a bad player is playing deep in a cash game you also think about buying more than normal-right?

where it gets a little trickier to decide is whether to add on 1 last time at the end of the rebuy period when you have a good stack

Anyone want to help me organize Big O or PLO8 tournaments at MGM or MD LiVE on Monday or Tuesday nights in August?

Almost always worth it to add-on at the end since most of the time you get more chips for the same $ amount as a rebuy. Pretty much always rebuy when entering, so you have more of the table covered stack-wise. The terms themselves are a bit odd, I think the site you're on calls it a single rebuy and a double rebuy when re-entering after busting out, double is best for the most part, with a few exceptions. If the add-on is very large compared to the rebuys, you could just do a single rebuy at the last minute and grab the huge add-on while skipping the small extra rebuy.

The toughest decisions is probably the entries+rebuys during early/mid stages, since too many of these will put you at a loss even if you min-cash. Burning a bunch of entries flipping late when the blinds are simply too high is really the only way you can go terribly wrong though, as far as the timing strategy goes anyway. The exception of course being an entry+rebuy (only if needed and if it's a huge mtt maybe even two?) at the last minute of late reg, and then adding on right after.
