A man visited a village, and was told
"If you have any questions, shout them into the well and they will be answered, except on Sundays"
"What happens on Sundays?"
"It's your turn to go into the well."

Thanks for agreeing to host this well, Omahaha.

Is Omaha-8 your favorite poker game, and if so, why?

Ooh. I'll go then.
Who do you really think are the top 5 or 10 O8 players online? Both FL and PL/NL, or can have seperate lists. And I generally mean non-nosebleed players, and more sort of regs in our community, and you can include yourself.
(I guess we've never really played so I wouldn't be expecting to be on this list anyway.)

And if you weren't already planning to write a bio or give some history about yourself and your poker career, then that would be interesting.

Also bonus question - Will you give me a lift to EPT London now that you think you're going? And where are you staying when you get there?
Cheers.

Would also like to know how long you've been playing o8, and what sites? Screennames too, if you don't mind of course.

Also, what's your favorite way to play 08 (not most profitable exactly, just favorite)...MTT, SNG, or cash? FL, NL, PL? And why?

And another ty for bringing back wells/get to know you threads. They're pretty interesting. Keep them coming!

I consider this an honor as I have only really been playing o8 seriously for around 2.5-3 years and I am certainly not a nosebleed cash player or an all time great.

However I have worked my way up through the micros to the weekly's and I would like to think I was considered as one of the better 08 MTT/SNG regs on Stars and FT. Although I am not adept at flowery prose I will endeavor to answer all questions as well as I can

I spent my early teens on-wards growing up in a rough area of Inner City London, England. Which was both a blessing and a curse. The school I went to was very poor and although I now consider myself to be reasonably good at academia there was very little incentive to obtain good results and definitely no support to do so.

So I left school at 16 and studied acting for a few years but never really took it very seriously. England was an exciting time to be growing up in the 90's with lots of tourists and a very lively free party scne where massive partys or raves were held in abandoned warehouses, cinemas, fields and on beaches where the general ethos was that people were sick of paying to be policed by aggressive security in clubs. You would sometimes call a number up at 10 pm on a Saturday night and would find out the address from an answerphone message and be on your way. I have some great memory's of these events and it really felt like a special time for all that were involved.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2UAMWzcNKe0

After holding down some casual jobs for a few years and generally living a pretty hedonistic life style I went back to night school whilst working full time and in a year came out with the qualification I needed to study psychology at university.

After leaving university I worked in the city as a corporate researcher but hated spending the day dealing with spreadsheets and corporate clients and watching the clock move round. Fast forward a few years and I had been working in the charity sector playing lots of poker both live and online and used my first big win to set up a business importing designer lighting form South East Asia which meant the bonus of doing lots of travelling to source products.

Around 6 years ago me and my partner being a little tired of our party fueled city lifestyle decided to emigrate to Australia to set up a business there (I have dual citizenship). This turned out to be perhaps the shortest emigration known to man as we found out we were expecting a baby and the obvious choice was to return to the UK where we both had family support. This led me to be staying with my partners parents in Devon, a rural part of England known for its rolling country side beaches and farming. This is actually where Tolkien based his Lord Of The Rings books.

Anyway so I had spent all my savings on the big move and subsequent retreat and was stuck in a place where jobs and opportunity's were scarce so this essentially led me to start playing poker more seriously. I went back to university to study for a Post Graduate Certificate Of Education which is the UK teaching qualification and became a qualified teacher. But while I was looking for a teaching job I stared making decent money at poker so I have stuck with it although I still like to teach along side poker as it gives me a better life balance and I feel like I am contributing to society.

Previosuly I had played a lot of NLHE both live and online and started winning a little as soon as I started playing. This is probably a lot down to the soft fields at the time but I think poker plays to my strengths as someone who loves games and is always trying to look at underlying strategy's behind them. I had also tried my hand at playing online PLO cash on sites like the Prima network and Betfair and had done fairly well including making the funds to set up my own business. After grinding NLHE MTT's I new this was not for me as the variance and hours were just horrid so I guess this led me to O8.

I new this question would come up but I was hoping later rather than sooner

Anyone who can make a living from this game has my respect to a certain degree.

This is a really tricky question as it really depends on what format and also comes down to certain styles matching up to each other. There are more than one successful style of o8 which is one of the reasons why it is such a beautiful game.

For example certain guys I would not go out of my way to play heads up but are exploitable in ring games when deep. It is hard not to be impressed with Bokkies success this year and as someone who is always trying to fine tune my aggression levels the more aggressive winning mtt players I generally hold in higher regards. Guys like Bedias and for1an2 I am never doing fist pumps when they are at my final tables.

oops missed this one.

Its not even close that o8 particularly plo8 and nlo8 is my favorite game. There is a real depth to this game that is just unrivaled when compared to the other poker variety's with perhaps 1/2 acceptations. I love the fact that after close to 10k mtts I am still learning new things/approaches on an almost daily basis.

I really enjoyed the 25 game ftops a few days ago even when though a momentary lapse in concentration led me to a major mistake when I didn't realise the game had changed.

I guess I have dabbled with 08 for around 7 years (cash games mostly) but have only really played it seriously for around 3 years.

Stud 08 to me has a lot of hidden depth to it (a bit like 08) and I would definitely like to get better at this variety of poker. Although I probably make more money at plo than any other variety accept 08.

To be honest I wish I had spent more time on my stars username at the time of creation I never considered that I would ever play on a none recreational basis. My username is based on a house producer called Mr Scruff.

Thanks for hosting
how do you find fitting poker around raising 2 small kids?
Do you work set hours whilst the wife/gf takes over or do you just roll with it?

I have never been a person to have a top ten of something so instead I will say the movie and book i have most enjoyed this year.

Best movie would probably be Dallas Buyers Club where Matthew McConaughey was brilliant (loved him in true detective also) and best book although I do not get much chance to read at the moment would be how we live now or anything by the late Iain M Banks R.I.P.

I have played 08 for around 7 years although it has only become my main game recently. I play as MrScruFFFF on PS and ANtiher000 on FT I have a bunch of user names on smaller sites for cash but prefer to keep anonymous there.

I love deep plo8 mtts (preferably with a decent buy in) nlo8 mtts come a close second while I enjoy cash on occasion most of the other forms I play for money over enjoyment.

I have dabbled with hypers but do not have a lot of love for them. Edges are small and variance is massive. Although I have respect for those that play them for me they are not fun or interesting really.

Besides the obvious (no low and middle runs more playable), what are the big differences between PLO8 and PLO MTTs?

Interesting question

Is there not an ancient Japanese curse "may you have an interesting life".

The single thing I am most thankful for poker for is how it has allowed me to spend so much time with my children in their early years. I work from home so I am always there in case of an accident and my children know that I am there.

When I look at some of my friends with "normal" jobs they seem to rarely see their children and whilst that works for them and they are building stability for their children I can not help but think they are mortgaging their present for their future.

We are lucky enough that my wife has a well paid job a few months of the year and when she does that I can be flexible and look after the children.

On the flip side it can be tough with the lack of security and although I would not recommend it it has worked relatively well for us so far.

How many mtts do you play in an average month?
How many sites do you play simultaneously?
If you lost interest in O8 mtts but still wanted to play poker what game/format do you think you would choose to focus on?

That's an easy one! My son has an obsession with owls. He was very upset when I changed my penguin avatar on FT (after binking FTOPS).
