Does anyone have insight on how the FL 08 tournament structure below will play? $300 buy in so I don't have high expectations, but I'm wondering how bad it will be. Thanks!

Looks like a typical circuit event. Pretty slow at first, but around lvl 6 & 7 it picks up.

Why do so many limit tournaments start the limits so low? It is totally pointless to play a level where the average stack is 100 big bets. Including a 50/100 level but not including a 250/500 level with 10k starting stacks is absurd.

So you can play really loose at first and tighten up as the limits go.

Wouldn't the opposite be true? If I'm sitting on 100BBs I'm probably waiting for super premiums hands as the blinds aren't chipping away at my stack very much. If I'm shorter stacked, my range opens up a bit.

Is this thinking incorrect for FL? PL?

It seems like it would be more correct in PL than FL, as the pots are larger.

The point is that in FL, if you have 100 big bets in your stack, the correct strategy is probably to do something better with your time. It doesn't matter if you play tight or loose, you can't appreciably change your stack in either direction.

I don't know why. Perhaps management thinks many players like that structure because the game is low pressure when the stakes are low.

However, whatever the reason, you may be able to get an idea of how your opponents play. (The danger here is they may change when the limits get more meaningful, but most probably will not).

And you have a chance to establish a false table image yourself.

I think the perfect solution for all limit tournaments would be to start with like 30-35 big bets and let it play like a normal cash game for awhile before the blinds start going up at all.

Seems pretty good. Or about as good as you can find for a $300 buy-in live tournament.

Yeah, this. (Although I'd say more like 40-50BBs to start.)
I think the best thing for limit games is to have doubled/repeat levels at the start, as the WSOP did last year. But unfortunately that's a very rare thing to find anywhere.

- the really bad players can still get a couple hours of play

- late entries could be allowed without much problem

- 'rusty' dealers get warmed up at game before it gets more complicated with all-ins
