Does race play a role in reads? Does race play a role in reads?

On a separate thread someone, the original threader, gave a description and stated that the villain was black, and a responder said does race matter in the players read on him? Instantly I thought absolutely. Thoughts, please be courteous For example: African American, Asian, Indian, White, age, male female?

of course it does.

I do believe that poker is one place where stereotyping is valuable (not just race). Obviously there are exceptions to every rule, but for the most part:

Young black people = Loose
Asian people = Crazy
Women = Scared
Old people = Nitty

Works online too with nationalities:

Russian = Maniac
Brazillian = Ubberdonk
German = ABC
French = Drooler

There is no correlation between race and play - to say there is must be racist

I think it's fine to talk about age and male/female though, and also talk about the learning environment for poker

We can say some learning environments (for all things) are associated with one nation or race - like Chinese table tennis players are better than everybody else and have a different style of play. Does this mean being Chinese makes you a better table tennis player and that all Chinese players are hugely aggressive? No but it makes it much more likely that if you are Chinese and play table tennis that you will conform to your environment. Same for every example from OP and Czar, the environment might give you some characteristic but it is nothing to do with race. White people rap and Phil Ivey is good at poker

Although race shouldn't play a role, it absolutely does more than it doesn't.
Please post about what you think about when you are facing a new table and different ethnicities/races are at your table ie...
Asian: The Loosest Most Aggressive Gamblers, or the extreme opposite of the spectrum.
African American: Gambler Calling Stations
Women: Scared Nitty,
Old Women: Calling stations, never raise
etc....
