I read the Bill Bostons book briefly and it seemed pretty useless for regular O8 SNG and tournament player. No use for advanced players.

There are lot of hand rankings, which might be interesting, but the method to produce them seemed badly flaved. If I understood method correctly, every hand was supposed to see the flop and from there forward computer simulated the rest of the play, which gave positive or negative ev for a hand, like +8$ or -4$. Well, it seemed ridiculous to call the flop with hands like wih three aces or with dry pair of aces. And then the aces got negative ev value.

If you look on propokertools ->click on Help/Docs, scroll to the bottom, you can look at hand rankings lists optimized for various numbers of opponents

I have recently decided to play my first live HORSE tournament soon, of the mix my two worst games are easily O8 and Stud8. After scrolling through some of this post, I am led to the conclusion that it would be very foolish of me not to read Ray Zee's book High-Low-Split Poker before this tournament, what I will start as soon as I get home from my job in Satan's workshop...

To those of you who have read that book, are there any particular parts I need to pay extra attention to?
Is there any out-of-date/style info in there?
Is there another book/tool out there to supplement any out-of-date info?

thanks for the help, I am really looking forward to this tourney, it will probably be the most fun I have playing all year (but it will be even more fun if I can win).

I haven't re-read Ray's book in a while, but it's far and away the best resource on split-pot poker out there in my opinion. You definitely should read it, and then read it again.

Regarding Ray Zee`s book Hi-Lo Split Poker for Advanced Players and Seven Card Stud for Advanced Players, does it have chapters about pot limit hi lo, or it only covers limit?

Where can I buy PDF version?

My recollection is only limit ... I don't even know if PLO8 was a figment of someone's imagination at the time Ray wrote the book.

No idea about a pdf version ... maybe PM Mat Sklansky or Professional Poker as it's a 2+2 publication.

we only had a few plo8 games when the book came about. it is all limit poker which was was what was around except for some very large crazy games that did pop up a few times.

It is an O.E. book and the LO8 section is great reading it now

The only reason one would not recommend it would be to limit the competition... as a beginner saw an immediate drastic improvement in my O.E. game

Is this book worthy of reading? (and buying...)

Any thoughts on ``Pot Limit Omaha 8 Revealed`` by Den Deppen?

Anyone can recommend some other good book or learning material?

If you are looking for fresh big O and PLO8 material look at: “SCOOP! Big O and PLO8; winning high low concepts for the hold ‘em mind” by Greg Vail. It’s actually recent and as the title suggests, the material is presented in a way that makes the transition from a 2 card game to a 4 card game seamless. It’s my understanding most people start with hold ‘em, I did, but players don’t understand omaha as well, therefore there is more money to be made in omaha for a truly sharp player. This book turned me into a profitable player. I hope this helps, there is some material out there.

Since there's not a lot of action in this thread I'll go ahead and post an update:

I'm just starting to learn O/8 and I only play in the smallest-stakes games. Keep that in mind as I give my advice:

I think that supplementing a book with an equity tool like ProPokerTools Odds Oracle can accelerate the learning curve dramatically. So Jeff Hwang says to raise in late position in a multiway pot with A2 with a suited ace - why? Well plug it in to PPTOO and get the answers to the questions about your equity, your % to win the hi, % to win the lo, how those equities change based on if the villains are limping 70% vs. 30% etc.

The additional insight one gets from those simulations cannot be overstated IMHO.
