Blind stealing and defending, fixed limit O8 Blind stealing and defending, fixed limit O8

I have started a second thread specifically for the blinds, as a subset of the overall discussion regarding position in fixed limit O8. PLO8 is probably different since you can repot from the blinds with a balance range and that is a whole different game. Lets stay fixed limit here.

btw the action is picking up, seeing multiple tables running all day on WPN skins. Whoot!

My 2c .....

Playing your blinds correctly and stealing correctly, is huge. The BB is your most expensive seat (including the BB) by far. The first glance at your database will show this. You have to do at least the minimal amount of defending and stealing to scrape back some of this money.

But how you do this is the question.

The problem is that the BB almost always has immediate odds to call a singe bet versus one opponent.
This is because the starting hands are usually so close in value.

Really, the only concern when making or facing a blind steal is card combo domination, IE you steal with A4xx and BB holds A2x. But should the BB raise and reveal his strength? A flat call only says "i have odds to call so I call", whereas a raise could mean "I have AA2x" or anything in between.

This is the beauty of fixed limit O8. Such interesting decisions, all the time! You can play an hour of LHE and never be in a spot where raising a good hand in the BB defense would be anything but +EV.

The blinds are a huge percentage of your hands, if your opponents are not making some effort to steal your blinds you win. If you do not defend correctly, you lose.

Thoughts?

In heads up pots you can't fold anything but the worst hands. However in most O8 games it comes up rarely. I have a 3bet range out of the bb in steal spots unlike limit holdem. Mostly because the cards are less defined and I'll take the equity edge while still having a lot of different flops covered

That seems to be my experience also. About your 3b range versus steal, is it normal range or sort of sneaky. I have considered 3b my AA and my all-high hands instead of my A2xx since they expect A2xx and this lets me cbet more types of boards.

I have only been break even when defending the BB multi-ways. I think I will narrow my defense range to any 2 wheel cards or any suited A, plus all the good hands, rarely 3bet. Still should let me see lots of flops from BB defense.
