I'm thinking of playing in this tourney instead of the $1,500 WSOP event which will run from 6/1 - 6/3.

The thinking is that the best players will be gunning for the bracelet and the weaker players who bust out of the WSOP event early will migrate over to the Venetian. $600 is also easier on the bankroll.

Anyone else planning on playing in this event?

I'm curious as to your perspective of the WSOP event as better value. Is that because of lower rake, longer structure or softer competition? I've never played a multi-day Omaha tournament so I'm interested to learn. All insights appreciated.

$1500 for a chance at 250k and gold bracelet or $600 for a chance at 40k. If you can swing it play WSOP. And unless you make final table you can still play Venetian if you bust out. You can late reg up til 9:30 on Saturday. Great second tournament option as I'm sure a bunch of the WSOP bust outs would play it, myself included. I'm sure you'll get a mix of good and bad players in both. I've seen a ton of questionable plays at WSOP. Haven't played Venetian yet.

I'm surprised that you don't know about these. There's loads of stuff around. Planet Hollywood has things like PHamous series with Dealer's Choice tournaments. Golden Nugget/Binions has lots of HORSE and O8 stuff going throughout the series.
Look up Kenny Hallaert/Spacey_FCB's Vegas spreadsheet, and there is a section for non-hold 'em stuff, and shows all the mixed stuff from various casinos.

I haven't played the series before and was originally thinking I would mainly play cash, its only in the last 2 weeks I started looking into some tournaments that could make sense

I still feel pretty torn about which o8 tournament would be better for me to play assuming I can play only 1. WSOP is less rake and field is probably slightly weaker but 7500 starting chips makes me cringe. By my calculations the venetian (20K starting chips) should give at least 90 more minutes of play if the cards don't go my way early, even accounting for the faster & steeper structure. The flexibility to play more aggro/Laggish styles for longer is signifigant, I think it should result in me cashing more often.

Similarly some of the Binion 365s have decent looking structures but 17.8% rake.

And this is exactly what the Venetian tournament does. The levels are much shorter and the 250/500 and 2.5k/5k levels are skipped. In exchange, you start with 75 big bets, which is too many.

For no-limit events, there are plusses and minus to the structure of the WSOP versus Venetian (and other places). But for limit tournaments, the WSOP at least gets it mostly right, while almost everywhere else runs them terribly.

Venetian rake is 82 / 600 = 13.67%
WSOP rake is 150/1500 = 10%

When you consider that Venetian is administering a mult-iday day event with 2.5 players per dollar more than WSOP, their rake doesn't look outrageous.

If the $1,500 is not an obstacle, the WSOP is a better value.

I'm playing the Aria on the 22nd at 11 A.M. 465 buy-in PLO8. Nice warm-up for the WSOP to follow on the 23rd.

That's a really fun event! Don't think I can play it this year, wish they scheduled it more in the thick of the schedule.

Didn't see a lot of big names at the top of either 1.5k WSOP or DSE 400 & 600 O8 events.

Any updates from Nut Nut or monikrazy? What event(s) did you play?

Coming down the stretch of the main part of the pure LO8 schedule, with 600 DSE finishing & 10k WSOP starting today.

As far as pure LO8, the best left in June is the $365 at Binion's on 6th.

For mixed games, Binion's has $365 HORSE on 5th, but if you can only play one it should probably be either day ones of the $585 HORSE at Binion's on 20th or 21st.
