Your standard of service, quality of food, uniqueness of cuisine and/or ambiance all
most certainly scale. You aren't seriously suggesting that the standards of all those aspects I just described are the same whether you visit a TGI Friday's or Carnevino, are you?
I realize stingy people like to take out their ire on tipping but it's pretty misplaced. After all, you can make your own food any time...
