Gambling Theory and Other Topics and Getting the Best of It for a mere $14 is the best gambling advice money can buy.
Ahead of their time, they were both written pre-1990 and will show the contemporary reader what charlatans the likes of Jonathan Little, Puggy Neutron, Tommy Angelo, Jared Tendler, Ed Miller and other writers really are.
Getting the Best of It is my all time favorite gambling book.
Mason's own books (Gambling Theory and the Poker Essay volumes) are probably the most underrated of the books he publishes. Much of what Mason writes is from the point of view of a statistician, and as I became more educated in the ways of gambling I learned that understanding statistics, and the way it effects gambling, is as important as understanding probability for becoming a competent gambler. This was especially important for me as understanding statistics doesn't come naturally to me, whereas, probability I kind of understand intuitively.
I recommend the aspiring gambler/poker player take advantage of some of these deals while they can.
Thanks for the positive comments relative to our books. A lot of work went into them and we feel that they are as good today as when originally published. Furthermore, while many of our posters may not realize it, much of the information in both Getting the Best of It and Gambling Theory and Other Topics is still highly influential. For instance, When poker players talk about the standard deviation, it can all be traced back to the Gambling Theory book.
