Hey guys, I saw on BlackRain's blog that he has finished with this book, am quite keen on getting it as his first one helped me a lot. Was wondering if any of you have read any of it yet and what you think of it thus far?

Thanks

I just got the email so chances are people haven't had a chance to read it all.

I bought the book today and have almost read the whole thing. He focuses on small stakes games and how to exploit all the regs in those games. It is focused on playing a very exploitative and aggressive style. I think the pre-flop chapter is very good and something i have been looking for in a book for a very long time. He goes through standard open ranges and how to adjust, 3-bet and calling ranges versus different opens. It's very good. If you have any more questions, just fire away. I plan to read it all today.

Should we read the first one before this?

Yes. The first one teaches the basics and how to beat the lowest limits and fishy opponents. This one is focused on the higher micros, where to run into more regs. So i would say this book is more advanced and builds upon the first one. It's geared toward somebody that can beat 2NL and 5NL, but is break even and can't really make it on the higher micro levels. It's suited towards somebody like me that can beat 10NL but is a break even player on 25NL.

Hopefully I'm not overstepping, but this is a quote from the introduction that should answer your question.

Quote:
This book will largely assume that you have read and understand the ABC fundamentals and exploitative strategies discussed in CTM. My previous book is not required reading before taking on this book. However, if you are relatively new to the game or are currently having trouble beating NL2, NL4 or NL5, then I would highly suggest that you have a look at it first.

Good book so far, I'm about halfway through. It's much more focused towards exploitative play than some of the other books I've read recently, which is actually quite refreshing although I would imagine that concepts are very familiar with regs at the higher levels (100nl and upwards). I like Blackrain's custom HUD as well, you could end up paying a similar price just for that!

Yeah, he goes in in pretty detail on how the use the HUD and what kind of statistics are optimal for a winning reg. He even defines player types according to different statistics that go beyond the normal VPIP and PFR.

I'm about halfway through the new book.

What I like about BR's writing style is he breaks down the concepts into such simple chunks that a 3rd-grader could read it and understand it (it feels like reading a storybook not a textbook).

I also like that he not only gives advice but explains why and WHEN it works. Learning how to adjust your play to the villains at the table is a skill in and of itself, and everytime he recommends a certain line he also lists the conditions under which the line will work, and it's up to the player to assess the conditions and pick the best line.

If two people read this book, the one with the BETTER ability to pick the right line based on the conditions is going to make more money in the long run.

Hope that helped.

With regard to reading CTM first, I would refer to the addage "If you can't beat bad players you can't beat good players". If you're not CRUSHING 2NL, 4NL or 5NL you should buy the first book, go through the iterative cycle of reading it, playing, posting hands, re-reading it (you'll notice concepts you missed), playing some more, posting some more hands etc etc until you're to the point where you basically feel like all the bad players are playing their hands face up.

BR does a good job of explaining and outlining what you'll see at NL10, 20, 25, 50 etc. that you don't see at 2NL, 4NL, 5NL. In short, it's better players. They won't always have JJ+/AQ+ when they 3-bet. They won't always have the nuts when they raise the turn. Further, they're paying attention to *you*. If you're c-betting the flop 90% and the turn 30% they'll start floating you with any two cards. If you're raising 40% from the button they'll 3-bet you lighter from the BB.

Hope this helped.

Not right now but it will be one of my first priorities. When it is available I will make it well known and it will be available to all previous buyers at no cost.

I have kindle fire hd and after buying the book this morning, pasted it into the "books" directory and it views an absolute treat on the kindle fire. Wouldn't be as great on the paperwhite or original kindles.

I´m reading it and i recommend for those that have just moved up from NL5.

There´s a LOT of examples of different spots we face everyday. I really loved the thought line Blackrain uses and how he handle with each kind of player.

Disclose all your results, that was one of the reasons why your first book was so appealing. Saying I won 100k isn't enough.

You might get a more positive response if you ASK him to please include his results rather than ordering him to. It probably wasn't your intention but your post came off a bit rude.
