Re: Wisconsin Governor deploys "nuclear option" and takes on public unions.

Still wondering where Inso0 got his 'they should be at 750,000 by now' line. Here's an update from today:

Quote:
United Wisconsin said Thursday it has gathered signatures from 507,533 Wisconsinites, about 33,000 fewer than needed. The group wants to have 720,277 signatures by the Jan. 17 deadline to ensure it has enough valid names.
...
More than 25,000 volunteers are fanning out, from the St. Croix River Valley to Beloit, to gather the remaining signatures, collecting names at a rate of about 18,000 a day, organizers say.

Walker has said he expects opponents to gather the needed signatures.

It's so awful they're usually a couple points under the national average for unemployment.

That's accounted for entirely by the number of jobs related to the selling of Green Bay Packer merchandise, though.

Not a perfect analysis, but I think you're going to need more to back your assertion that Wisconsin is historically scary place to do business.

From that link:

Note also that this table does not take into consideration the taxing and spending of local governments within states, which can vary widely, and sometimes disproportionately with state tax burdens.

Your primary population areas are Madison and Milwaukee. Milwaukee used to be a HUGE manufacturing city, but has been bleeding jobs like crazy to greener pastures for decades.

Madison is the birthplace of the radical Left, but I can't speak directly to their local taxation situation since I do not live there.

Milwaukee taxes are bad, but can't hold a candle to all the "fees" that they love to create.

Re: Wisconsin Governor deploys "nuclear option" and takes on public unions.

I just did some checking with regard to local taxation based on your wiki list.

The "highest tax" state on that chart is Alaska, which should have been your first clue that it was useless information.

But Anchorage (by far the most populated city in AK) has a property tax rate of $14.93 per $100k of assessment. Not only that, but they have no sales tax.

Milwaukee, WI has a property tax rate of $26.57 per $100k of assessment. They also have an extra .6% sales tax.

Don't get me started on the fees. (Herp derp Milwaukee Wheel Tax of $20)

A million signatures submitted today for Walker's recall. And almost a million more for other recalls.

The last elections were such a disaster for WI.

Re: Wisconsin Governor deploys "nuclear option" and takes on public unions.

The number of signatures is really not all that impressive.... it has been shown that a decent percentage of people will sign almost anything if someone looks official (ya know holding a clipboard and everything) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yi3erdgVVTw

.... do the dems even have an idea of who they are gonna run against Walker?

I don't have a 14" signature, but I do sign it with a 14" pen.
