No, I was lucky to have the option of choosing a public school that offered busing.
None of the private schools in my town had busing. kind. - high school.

Again I'll explain, a voucher system doesn't eliminate public schools.
It gives people a CHOICE to go public or private. Since when is choice bad?

Why, Joe? Explain to me why secret ballot voting is BAD in union shops.

You can't opt out of the services, ie contract and representation. You can freeride, maybe that's what you're looking for?
Are you serious with that second part? That's the worst talking point I've seen yet.

When unions figured out it would hurt their membership.

On the contrary, you CAN opt out of the union coverage. But you still have to pay the "fairness fee"

I'm very serious.
Unions are not as popular as you'd like to believe, even in those shops that are currently unionized.
There is a reason that:
Quote:
|
The "Employee Free Choice Act"—better known as the Card Check bill—is a proposed law that would change how unions are allowed to organize workers in the United States. Big labor unions like the AFL-CIO, SEIU, and the Change to Win Coalition spent heavily during the 2009 election, and are pushing Congress to approve this law which would effectively eliminate private voting..
|
The same reason that Walker is putting it in his bill. Requiring recertification via secret ballot each year is going to bring to light the fact that unions cannot survive without their mafia-style intimidation tactics.

Because when you assume everyone is in the same situation as you, you ignore the fact that there may not be choice introduced. Instead, it's just a means of funneling money away from schools that may need it, like those located in lower income neighborhoods.
I mean, lol poor people, don't they know they should have multiple cars and parents??

Or the public schools could start doing their job so people would voluntarily attend. It is quite telling when the opposition to vouchers is that the government school definitely will be inferior and needs to have captive customers to continue to exist.

Re: Wisconsin Governor deploys "nuclear option" and takes on public unions.
Guess what, we live in America.
If there is a large clustered population of "lol poor people" who don't have cars and can't drive to a far-away private school somewhere, there will be an enterprising individual who will open a satellite campus of some popular private school nearby.
There is plenty of money to be made in non-profit. Especially if your revenue stream is coming from the State. As long as your product (educational quality) is good, there will be customers (choice students) to be had.
You're really reaching here.

no, i just try not to be ethnocentric, so as not to be blind to the historical plight of others
if you have 2 runners who both start 100 yards from a finish line, and you shoot one of them in the leg, then tell them they're on equal grounds, you're lying.

yes, cause that's what all high school teenagers need, more peer pressure because they can't afford, or don't have the class, to attend the main school.
Or maybe the cliques decide that those kids can't go to this campus. What year in America are you in.

So, public schools in inner cities are terrible because all the white people left. We also shouldn't try charter schools because poor minorities will still be disadvantaged. WTF would you suggest we do? Keep a system that we know is terrible, or try a system that might improve education a little bit for poor americans?
Also, you're right about one thing. If you parents are rich, you are going to get a better education than if your parents are middle class. If your parents are middle class, you are going to get a better education than if your parents are poor. No system is going to change that

Re: Wisconsin Governor deploys "nuclear option" and takes on public unions.
Holy ****, really?
And who is going to make fun of these kids? The ones also attending that same campus? Or maybe the guys at the "main" school will drive over to the satellite one on and throw rocks at them.
......
seriously, what are you smoking?
I'm sorry but that is the worst "con" to a potential solution that I've ever heard.

Re: Wisconsin Governor deploys "nuclear option" and takes on public unions.
Can't stop giggling at cres.
"I go to Prep School East. What school do you go to?"
"Oh, I go to Prep School North. They opened up another one nearby."
"Yeah, well your version of Prep School is inferior to mine because I drive an extra 9 minutes to get there. Your family must be poor and thus I can no longer associate with you. Plus, I will make fun of you with my friends on facebook."
Seriously, what the ****?
