I don't know if that is true. VP is a probably a pretty cool job. You get some prestige without as much headache. Let's face it, Christie probably could not physically handle a presidential election running as president.

I was thinking the same thing but a couple weeks ago I thought I heard Christie say he would basically snap accept the VP job.

There's no chance Condi accepts an offer to join another Rove-led campaign.

Re: Who will be the Republican VP nominee for 2012 (Romneys running mate)

Maybe I'm being overly conspiratorial, but it seemed to me the Rice rumours might well have been floated to Drudge by the Romney campaign as a form of cover for any fallout from the NAACP speech and its 'free stuff' aftermath. It seems maybe a bit too Machiavellian but then I wouldn't have credited the Romney campaign with using the NAACP to gin up cheap heat criticising Obamacare. That seemed like it was intended to counter the Etch-A-Sketch/flip-flopper meme about Romney - look, he sticks to his guns, he got booed for saying he'd repeal Obamacare and then he doubled down on it afterwards!

If Christie is offered and takes the nomination I will take that as a sign that he thinks Romney will lose and that he intends to run in '16. Seems unlikely though.

You're not being overly conspiratorial. There's a reason no reputable news source came out with it...it's because it was never credible and such an obvious plant.

What, every news sort on the planet reported it. They are taking a fair amount of heat for doing so but your statement is waaay off the mark.

No, every news site was reporting on it being reported on drudgereport.com. There's been no independent sourcing of it from anywhere else at all. It was the blurb that appeared on Drudge, that was the very basis of the reporting.

Drudge has been firmly in the Mittster camp for awhile now and has close ties to several of his campaign managers. Seems obvious that this was a total plant to try and get the news off Bain-gate

Either a full on plant, or Drudge deciding all on his lonesome to put it out there, in a shallow attempt to aid his anointed hero in a perceived time of need. Either way, made totally irrelevant in a couple hours by Condi saying essentially "not just no, but hell no", and the attempted diversion failed when the Mitt-as-CEO got even bigger afterwards.

Drudge is linking to a New York Times story about Tim Pawlenty being considered for the VP slot.

To Win VP Nom - Pawlenty 29%, Portman 24.9%, Thune 9.5%, Rubio 8.2%, Rice 7%, Ryan 4.5%, Jindal 4.3% ‪#Intrade‬
