These are the two things I can't reconcile with making her a great pick. While these are great for me, I can't see the current tea flavored GOP liking these positions even a little bit. After all Romney had to dive far right on both these issues just to get the nomination.

I understand what you are saying but a pick like Condi might help him with independents that currently perceive him as too far right. I think it's an unlikely pick but pretty cool if it came about.

Agreed, but I just don't think he's in a position where he's loved enough by the conservatives to risk someone with those points. I would love it in the sense of it would make the race much more interesting with his VP pick than with some boring ass like Pawlenty or Portman, but I just don't see it happening. Still think he's pressured by not being far enough right. I think what Levin said "pick a damn conservative" rings more for him than the independent help.

If he was already a conservative champ I could see it, but when your opponents called you a Mass. moderate in the primaries I don't think you have the latitude to pull this off.

Don't disagree with your analysis at all. One thing it seems clear is that Romney will get a ton of data and make a decision based upon that data. It would say positive things about the party and the country ime if the data led him to picking Condi. That said, agree that it is unlikely.

I don't understand that reasoning. Is a portion of the GOP base not going to vote at all or are they going to switch and vote for Obama, who also puts his support behind those issues?
