Who will be the 2016 Libertarian nominee? Who will be the 2016 Libertarian nominee?

02-04-2016 , 12:37 AM
The Libertarian Party has 12 candidates vying for the nomination this year. Their first (only?) debate will be March 7th in North Carolina, one week before 11 of those 12 will appear on that state's primary ballot. Let's have a look at the field.

Gary Johnson is the defending champion (aka "The Establishment"). He is a former member of the Republican Party and former governor of New Mexico. In addition to his political experience as world record holder for gubernatorial vetos and as a failed 3rd party candidate, he has also climbed Mt Everest and been known to acknowledge the existence of the TwoPlusTwo poker forum. He lives in Taos, New Mexico with his heterosexual domestic partner.
John McAfee is perhaps best known as the creator of the unwanted and ineffectual software that would slow down your computer. He was a former resident of Belize until he was run out of that country for weapons charges, drug manufacturing, connection to a murder, and general unsavoriness. He currently lives in Tennessee after having pissed away the majority of his $100 million fortune. His mental health has been questioned by numerous people.
Marc Allan Feldman is a practicing physician in Ohio whose political experience includes never registering to vote until he was 50 years old. Since then he has run for the office of Ohio Attorney General where he received not quite 3% of the vote, and attempted to run for Ohio State Treasurer but was removed from the ballot when he failed to secure the required 500 signatures. He is requesting that Kanye West be his running mate.
Cecil Ince (formerly Christopher Davis) is a self-described "political figure", having run for several offices as a Libertarian and consistently earning vote percentages in the low single digits. He wants the US to go back on the gold standard, does not accept the anthropogenic view of climate change, and does not believe the Federal Government has constitutional authority to regulate the environment. It's not entirely clear whether he lives in Texas or Missouri.
Steve Kerbel
"I would like to introduce this 6 minute video. Please watch the whole video and keep the sound up. This video is entitled “Libertarian Revolution 2016”. I wrote this message and a good friend of mine… a movie producer produced and directed it. I am very proud of this video. The message strikes me to my very soul, and I am pleased and honored to share it with you. It represents the essence of my Libertarian views regarding how we must save this nation from the damage done by the Republicans and Democrats working together over the past 100 years. Please enjoy the video!"
I did not watch Steve's video.
Darryl W. Perry has much more flattering photographs of himself available from a Google image search, but this is the picture he chose for his own campaign website. And while that site is not shy about requests for cryptocurrency donations, it is very forthcoming with how they are spent (he buys a lot of buttons). Darryl has been endorsed by several people, but has not filed with the FEC as a form of protest. He lives in New Hampshire.
Austin Petersen is a former male model and actor who currently operates a consulting firm for photo, video and brand marketing. His campaign website is very professional looking, although light on policy details and political qualifications. He played 'The Husband' in the 2006 short film Expectation and is a frequent guest/contributor in Libertarian and right wing media. He lives in Missouri and is not a supporter of the Non-Aggression Principle, one of the cornerstones of Libertarian ideology.
Derrick Michael Reid believes we live under a system of totalitarian democracy. He is deeply concerned about currency collapse, "greedster mob bosses", and has sought to examine 2008 election demographics through the lens of mid-20th century cartoons. He works in patent law and has been to Russia many times. The nature of his uniform is unclear. He lives in California.
Jack B. Ronbinson, Jr. is a small business owner and inventor living in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He has a novel approach to solving many intractable social problems with his "Birth Loop" economic plan, which cost-shifts governmental dependencies by giving every person $50,000 on their 25th birthday but they have to pay interest or something and stay off welfare and this creates healthcare for all and world peace and holy ****ing **** I have no idea what this guy is talking about but he has written extensively on whatever the **** it is.
Rhett Smith has a campaign website with absolutely no content on it at all, so he can just **** right off. He lives in Texas, but apparently is not the Rhett Smith who lives in Plano doing marriage and family therapy.
Shawna Sterling ran for US Senate in the 2014 Kentucky Republican primary. She came in 3rd behind a former governor and a turtle. She is a bit cagey on personal details and her campaign website is mostly links to other sites. She is reported to be deeply religious, believes Obama supports a pro-GMO plan that caused her childhood obesity, and that zygotes are US citizens. She is not currently listed on any state's primary ballot.
Joy Waymire holds many current positions in politics, including Mediation & Conflict Resolution Minister of US Parliament and Chairman of World Boston Tea Party. She has a background in Spiritual Vision, macramé, and managing a 24 hour convenience store. She was born with her umbilical cord tied in a hangman's noose around her neck and suffered the murder of her cats as a teenager. She has numerous health problems and experiences frequent stigmata. She lives in California.

Under ordinary conditions you'd have to pry a 'no' out of me, but no. No, they do not.

I think it's a photoshop. If you're gonna run for president, I feel like you need to at least have your fantasy constitution soldier uniform actually tailored. Disappointing.

eta: the rest of this guy's site is a total hoot.

Quote:
Libertarians, 2016 presents the Libertarian Party with a truly historic opportunity, not seen in the US for over the last 150 years, to capture the White House and save the nation from social anarchy and economic collapse, caused by 110 years of Democrat Party leftist proposing and Republican Party rightist enabling, resulting in national bankruptcy, economic stagnation, social strife, bastardization of our Constitution, and the concentration of totalitarian socialistic fascist political power in DC, suppressing our liberties and freedoms from government. The two major pandering political machines have selfishly locked up the voting booth as two sides of the same coin, by corrupting our federalism, by unconstitutionally mixing social programs with federal responsibilities at the federal level, so as to enhance their political pandering abilities and increase their money elitist campaign contributions, causing wealth transfers from the 99% to the top 1%, income inequalities, destruction of the middle class, destruction of our manufacturing base, enslavement of all Americans as tax mules or state dependents, confused ineffectual government, destruction of our once real honest money, and destruction of our once honest price-discovery markets. The United States titters at the precipice of national ruination. The call is made to all my libertarian friends to unite and stand up together as one, for this noble purpose, to lead the nation and all Americans and all political groups, in Restoring Americana Greatness, Constitution, Republic, Liberties, Freedoms, Prosperity and Peace. Rarely in generations do confluences align offering national salvation by so few freedom lovers as now. Now is our time, our time to rise up and stand united for this noble purpose. Please join me. Now is our time in history to fulfill our destiny and restore our great nation. WE ARE AMERICANS, WE CAN DO!
the bolded is delicious irony.

You'd think so, and yet here we are, with Derrick Michael Reid running for President in what is clearly an off-the-shelf, generic constitution soldier costume.

Also if you're cosplaying a Liberty Fighter Medal of Honor winner against greedster mob bosses, don't you at least need a musket or an arquebus or something? Where's this dude's firearm?
02-04-2016 , 01:07 PM
it gets better!

At first I thought he was referring to the quote from MLK's I Have a Dream speech but it's like kinda pretty far off so I assume it was an allusion or reference to something else. But maybe I'm giving that dude too much credit and he just has no idea and got literally > 50% of the words wrong in the thing he was trying to quote.
