Meh, easy to read LirvA's post as directed against "generic posters itt" but I'll stop pointing out the ridiculousness of his posting for a time.

You said somewhere you used to be a democrat? Why were you a democrat?

Care to elaborate? Looks to me like every one of their 100 points is backed up by reputable citations.

My father and basically entire family on his side are Democrats and union members.

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

Well, there goes the neighborhood. That Washington post article is a low blow. I bet they will do a big one on Obamas relatives next week.

Goofballer,

I was saying that the majority of posters here are not going to vote in a republican primary. They follow the thread to take shots at the various candidates. A Bachman or Cain is low hanging fruit for them. It's harder to take shots at Newt because he is clearly qualified for the job and he is a really bright dude. He is not really fun for people on the left to talk about. So when he is the one in the news, its EZ for the thread to drift off path.

It's quite natural, no? Similar to how if you grow up in a family of Oklahoma Sooners fans, you become one yourself. Which he is, and I am. But the difference in football and politics is one requires thought on things.

I dont see any elaborating.

It's definitely natural - it's also common to start questioning that stuff (the political stuff, you're basically stuck with the football team your rooted for in your formative years) around age 18-22 is all. Plus I went through a 1-2 year extreme libertarian phase around that age too, it has a very appealing simplicity. Sadly, the question of how to govern is anything but simple, and anyone who approaches it as dogmatically as Ron Paul should be eyed warily.

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

Anyone have a guess on what % of libertarians convert to a Republican or Democrat later in life? 1%?

If someone says they used to be a libertarian but now believe in big government, I have a hard time believing they were ever really libertarian.

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

I don't see how anyone can support voting for a president who received major contributions from big financial corporations on wall street. Do you think they will actually want to solve the real problem with the United States?

I feel like all the action the president/congress take are things that don't really solve the problem.. It's like cutting off a toe of a dragon, instead of going for the head.

Can you think of a candidate that's not supported by big corporations on wall street? There are only a couple.

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

I may not agree with everything Ron Paul has to say, but if you consider foreign policy and government corruption the two biggest things in this upcoming election, he is the only one who is willing to do the right thing.

FYI I was a registered democrat until 2 years ago.

http://www.bluerepublican.org/ - A website created for the group of democrats who are switching over to registered republican to vote for Ron Paul in the primaries.
