If Romney loses FL, I don't think he could be classified as anything more than a "slight" favorite. No way will he still be an overwhelming one. Losing FL is a debilitating blow in th expectations game. It's a complete upheaval to the aura of inevitability he had after NH, and it means he lost in a state where he had a huge advantage in terms of cash to fund advertising and boots on the ground in an expensive state. Plus, FL is winner take all this time around, meaning Newt would gain a huge bump in the delegate math, a lead that he might even be able to carry through Mitt's strengths in NV, CO, MI, and ME as long as Newt garners respectable finishes there, or even picks some of them off. If Newt can win MN and AZ, and maybe pick off one of Romney's strongholds, then Newt even might be perceived as the frontrunner come Super Tuesday.

He then told me that one of his friends in his Christian men's group told him that they (a bunch of evangelical conservatives) prayed over Newt and determined that he did the right thing by converting to Catholicism and decided all is forgiven and he's the best candidate.

Moral of the story
It's tough being republican.
It took courage to admit that. If it makes you feel any better I feel the same way when some of my friends start talking about Building 7 (9/11) and Monsanto.

My mom is a personal trainer and trains a bunch of old bigots, mostly women. I guess conversation today was focused on callista being a robot and her hairdo! She said at least 4 clients mentioned it today lol.

55-65% seems about right to me. I don't know if you want to call 65% "overwhelming" or not. Newt absolutely must win FL, but even if he does, Romney has a decent path to the nomination given that 4 of the next 6 state contests are pretty favorable to him.

Sure looks like its setting up for a blowout win for Newt in FL. Romney's national lead has already evaporated, and a blowout in FL would surely give Newt a pretty good national lead. For whatever reason, people just don't like Romney.

His tax returns being released tomorrow means that Romney either ends one of the attacks on him or opens a fresh wound to target. Given he is doing it after the debate i suspect its more of the latter than the former.

Whatever the returns say Gingrich will use them to his advantage IMO.

It's almost worth having Obama for another 4 just to get to see him have to run against Newt in the general, because it will be so damn much fun. But nah...

I'm talking more about them freaking out about GMO. I am sure Monsanto exploits 3rd world countries to death just like every other American company.

I love how the people who live on lolRonland island never give up hope.

Just cause everyone els is a piece of **** does not make it ok for you to be the biggest piece of ****.
01-23-2012 , 09:07 PM
I didn't say it does. I just said the reason they bring up Monsanto is because they think GMO is going to bring about doomsday or something.

They wouldn't be bitching about some corporation exploiting a 3rd world country because that's not sexy enough/too pedestrian for them. They are pretty low information except for the ultra-liberal conspiracy theories they like to pass around while they're getting baked in India somewhere in their hemp sarong playing a didgeridoo or whatever (yes I know that's not Indian - but they would bring one to India just to play it).

Ask Hillary how her 70% Intrade rating/price worked out for her:

Romney was at 90% to win 5 days ago. He is falling off the GOP cliff. Sheldon Adelson, the casino gabillionaire, is throwing money at Newt faster than Callista can rub it on her...um...diamonds.

I say 2 things need to happen for Romney to lose:

1) Newt crushes FL.
2) Santorum drops out immediately after FL.

Most Southern states and evangelicals are not voting for Romney. If Newt can build momentum and narrative as the only conservative after FL, and continues to crush the debates, then Romney will fizzle out.

Dogs won't vote for Romney, either.
01-23-2012 , 09:13 PM
Plus Romney's Intrade is falling with increasing volume:

meh, can't post 5 day chart for some reason.

Buying Romney at 65% would be a GOP-style gamble imo.

Didn't Monsanto invent asbestos or something? Yeah, Monsanto is nasty: Monsanto's Global Pollution Legacy

There is a Monsanto plant about 1/2 hour away that smells like toxic crap when you drive by. I can't imagine living near that place.
01-23-2012 , 09:21 PM
Kinda want Newt to get the nom just to see the GOP burst into flames as they get miserably wrecked in the general by an incumbent with bad approval ratings, high unemployment and a stalled economy.
01-23-2012 , 09:21 PM
Lol results orientated stuff there klinker
01-23-2012 , 09:29 PM
Does anyone else reflexively say "nominee" to themselves with the same weird emphasis as Gingrich now? I have to try to say it with the normal intonation in my head.
