Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee? Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

10-12-2011 , 02:56 AM
I would love to see Cain end up the nominee, but we've seen this before. He's Ross Perot and he's not going anywhere, which saddens me because I think it would be a huge step for the Rs to have a black candidate, not to mention the excitement of 2 black candidates in the general.

Sadly, he will, at best, pull a Perot and run 3rd party, siphoning votes from the R candidate (or just not run at all).

If he wasn't so gimmicky (and I know something about gimmicks) and actually had political experience maybe he has a shot. But we have an inexperienced guy in office and it hasn't turned out that well for us.

In the end, I think the old metrics are melting away and Obama will win by pure grit alone (read: gotv). I wish it weren't so, but that's what I see happening with their ability, and the R inability, to focus on the micro.

I just pray that whoever is next won't **** on civil liberties so much.

if there's any left ...

There isn't a candidate who could plausibly get elected who wouldn't continue the Bush-Obama dumpstorm on civil liberties.

Can we lock this and start Obama vs Romney general election 2012 thread? This is the least exciting primary of all time.

Rick Perry just fell below 10% on intrade, Romney scratching 70%.

Wow, what a dick. Even telling him he *would* arrest him would be better than what he did. lol
10-12-2011 , 04:43 AM
When the guy says the synthetic makes him sick it looks like Mitt starts smiling, like a "yeah, uh uh buddy, sure "

**** Mitt Romney
10-12-2011 , 05:21 AM
Yeah, it's so obvious he's human scum. Obama would have come up with some super sympathetic and considered response, and then went to the back room to laugh with his advisers about the sick, skinny kid in a wheelchair who he's going to put on the arrest list immediately while major media outlets proclaim "Obama willing to help those in need."

It seems like very few politicians even do a half-decent job of seeming human, although at least three of the last five presidents have been very good at it.

If he wasn't broke I'd put ten bucks on Cain running as an independent.

I'm a pretty liberal dude for this board but I don't think Romney was being a dick. I did catch the distinct sound of Michael Moore being a dick in the background.

Romney didn't lie to him or dance around the question. No he won't personally arrest him, yes he will probably support the DEA or other federal agencies arresting people who violate federal law.

This is all to be expected of any Repub candidate, they have a base to appease. The sad thing is that apparently Obama is on the same side of the issue as Romney, having seen no need to appease his base.

I hate this kind of rhetoric.
If something is not important issue right now just legalize it and come back later to it once you have time. You may as well ask why with 2 wars going on and 3rd just around the corner, economy crisis, fed spending out of the roof you spend billions of dollars for futile war on drugs.

Don't worry. The more inevitable and boring the outcome appears to be, the harder will the press try to conjure up some controversy and hype some poll in order to breathe some life into the campaign.
10-12-2011 , 10:50 AM
I'm pretty sure the GOP is too smart to let Cain or Paul or anyone run on a 3rd ticket. I'm not sure what leverage they'll use, but they'll find some. Only the dems are that dumb/ineffectual.
10-12-2011 , 11:55 AM
Cain wouldnt have the money to run as a 3rd party. Paul would, but he wont. GJ probably wouldnt.

Do we have a consensus on the presumptive nominee yet?

Yeah there's no time to think of the legalization of a plant that would create and save plenty of revenue and jobs in a time like this. We need to focus on revenue and jobs, you ****ing hippies.

Romney is a huge favorite.

PPP National Poll 10/7 - 10/10

Cain - 30%
Romney - 22%
Gingrich - 15%
Perry - 14%
Paul - 5%
Bachmann - 5%
Huntsman - 2%
Santorum - 1%
Johnson - 0%

Well here's the peak of Cain's polling numbers. Gingrich has always done better with PPP than any other pollster. He hasn't hit over 11% in any national poll since polling at 20% in a PPP poll back in May. I thought Cain and Perry really stunk up the joint last night so I'd expect them to deflate from here, with Romney picking up most of the support. Bachmann and Paul's strong performances should put them them back on the upswing.

At the rate states are turning to prison labor, this sarcasm will be a legitimate GOP talking point by 2016.

Thanks for that nice snapshot. Its a bummer the GOP couldn't come up with fresh runner for POTUS. I had high hopes that Obama would be a one-termer but It looks like his job is safe. yawn. Get with it GOP!

I think Rand is the leverage with Ron but I don't know how much leverage is really needed. Cain has a future in the party or as a commentator. Not sure why he would run as anything other than an R.

There's a ton of interesting **** if you look deeper into that poll. E.g.:

Q18 Do you think that Herman Cain is too liberal, too conservative, or about right?
Too liberal .................................................. ..... 6%
Too conservative...................................... ....... 8%
About right .................................................. .... 71%
Not sure .................................................. ........ 15%

Q17 Do you think that Rick Perry is too liberal, too conservative, or about right?
Too liberal .................................................. ..... 17%
Too conservative...................................... ....... 14%
About right .................................................. .... 53%
Not sure .................................................. ........ 17%

Q16 Do you think that Mitt Romney is too liberal, too
conservative, or about right?
Too liberal .................................................. ..... 31%
Too conservative...................................... ....... 5%
About right .................................................. .... 51%
Not sure .................................................. ........ 13%

Also:

Q20 If the Republican race for President came down to Mitt Romney and Hermain Cain, who would you vote for?
Mitt Romney............................................ ........ 36%
Herman Cain.............................................. ..... 48%
Not sure .................................................. ........ 16%
