Santorum confirmed nutter...which is why it's even more terrifying that in 2012 this guy is leading the GOP in many states...

Indeed.

There's a reason it's only supposed to apply to the feds.

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

On the subject of the Catholic/birth control/healthcare thing.

Do you people think that adding that to the healthcare plan makes it free? It just ups the cost of the healthcare plan a proportional amount. And that cost just gets passed on to the employees. So basically, what forcing them to cover it actually does is to force the employees who are not using birth control to pay for it for those who do. How is that fair?

If you really want to use the government to help the poor get better and cheaper access to birth control, eliminate all the patents on birth control and make it illegal for insurance companies to have anything to do with it. That's what drives up the prices on something that should cost like $20 for a year's supply. Having it more covered by more insurance just drives the prices up even higher and those prices are passed on to those buying the insuranc, which is always the employees, cause they just get paid less in exchange.

Right, Team A should steal Team B's money to pay for things that only Team A wants and Team B morally opposes.

Yes that is how all taxation throughout the history of time works. W/o it you wouldn't have modern civilization. If you have a problem with the entire construct of society, maybe make your own thread? Afaik this thread is grounded in the real world where we take a certain amount of taxation for granted and discussion tends to revolve around the ideal level of said taxation - not the justification for any at all.

It actually probably saves the other employees money when they don't have to pay for that person's pregnancy and birth. Those things are way more expensive than the pill.

From everything I've read, at worst it's cost neutral.

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

I've kind of just started following along and am enjoying the sweat. Am planning on watching the debate tonight for the lulz.

Assume my choice for president would be:

Obama>>>Romney>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>S antorum.

And that I would prefer as Democratic a congress as possible.

Does it still make sense to pull for Santorum in the Republican Primary because he'll get stomped by Obama (who I'd prefer) and because he's so bat**** insane that he'll mobilize the left and help Dems in Congressional races?

Or is there a scenario whereby he could win the whole thing that is significant enough to be worried about? I don't really follow these things that closely...

Re: Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

Well, Romney ~= Obama, and there's definitely a nonzero chance Santorum wins, so I'd go with Romney.
