The infatuation with the also-rans and didn't-runs is just grass-is-always-greener syndrome imo.
I'm gonna be that guy, Christie is just wayyyy too large to run for president.

In order to run since 2000, you have been forced to embrace a hard line, religion- tainted orthodoxy thar forced out more......impressive....candidates.

The second Republican void is that it has been twenty years since there has been an administration not staffed by old retreads and crackpots from Liberty, Oral Roberts, and homeschooled FoF crackpots. The talent pool has been drained like the Dem one in the stretch from Nixon-Bush41 which only had four years of Carter's lacking team. Republicans just aren't electing governors like Clinton, who were able to see how the party needed reality and rebranding. 2016
Might be even worse Han this crop.
Somebody just drone the whole country already. Joe Biden, lol Jesus Christ save us please

That mixed w/ his height doesn't scream alpha leader either. Esp not next to dreamy Mitt or the surprisingly tall Obama

Nixon was an insecure mofo but it wasn't overt b/c it put a fire in his belly that he wasn't a blue blood by birth

HW Bush seems like a good choice too, although he tried to get the nomination in '80, he just strikes me as the quiet grandfather type more than anything.

Carter's a good fit.

No way Kennedy or Eisenhower. LBJ was a conniving MOFO.

Bush II was a cheerleader imo. He always seemed like a paper tiger.

Bush Sr is a good darkhorse b/c of appearance and cadence. Being a successor as opposed to a trail blazer plays into it too.

The fact that he was director of the CIA kinda negates it tho.

Clinton and JFK were way too busy impregnating the herd to be anything but the epitome of alpha

Bush died on his 'No new taxes' hill. Congress pushed that **** thru no matter what Gramps said.

Not very alpha - good point

On the other hand being a war "hero" is pretty alpha. From his wiki:

Quote:
After Bush's promotion to Lieutenant (junior grade) on August 1, the San Jacinto commenced operations against the Japanese in the Bonin Islands. Bush piloted one of four Grumman TBM Avenger aircraft from VT-51 that attacked the Japanese installations on Chichijima.[5] His crew for the mission, which occurred on September 2, 1944, included Radioman Second Class John Delaney and Lieutenant Junior Grade William White.[1] During their attack, the Avengers encountered intense anti-aircraft fire; Bush's aircraft was hit by flak[6] and his engine caught on fire.[1] Despite his plane being on fire, Bush completed his attack and released bombs over his target, scoring several damaging hits.[1] With his engine afire, Bush flew several miles from the island, where he and one other crew member on the TBM Avenger bailed out of the aircraft;[6] the other man's parachute did not open.[1] It has not been determined which man bailed out with Bush[1] as both Delaney and White were killed as a result of the battle.[6] Bush waited for four hours in an inflated raft, while several fighters circled protectively overhead until he was rescued by the lifeguard submarine USS Finback.[1] For the next month he remained on the Finback, and participated in the rescue of other pilots.

Pretty hardcore. I wasn't being literal about the taxes, just playing off of TC. Although TC is correct in terms of what vibe Bush put out. Not finishing Sadam off was attributed as Bush being weak if I remember right. He never crossed my mind tho
