Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee? Who Will Be the 2012 Republican Presidential Nominee?

06-12-2011 , 07:38 PM
Please no more Rick Perry talk until he enters the race.

There's a debate tomorrow, who's in it?
06-12-2011 , 07:42 PM
Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann, businessman Herman Cain, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, Texas Rep. Ron Paul, former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum will participate in the June 13 debate on the campus of Saint Anselm College.

Inb4 the media calls Pawlenty the winner and nobody in a focus group has him ranked in their top 4
06-12-2011 , 08:01 PM
Didnt Palin get invited, despite not running (yet) and they completely snubbed Gary Johnson who is running (barely)?

Anyway, im gonna watch cos Bachmann in a debate will be hilarious.
06-12-2011 , 08:03 PM
I'm actually most excited about Gingrich, should be interesting to see how he performs amidst the chaos that is his campaign.
06-12-2011 , 08:06 PM
It really cannot be overstated how little support Pawlenty actually has. Dude is a complete joke.
06-12-2011 , 08:10 PM
I was watching CNN yesterday and they kept asking ppl who the debate was most important for or who to watch and 100% of them (pundits obv) said Romney and Pawlenty (shocker).

He "counts," but he's the only example, and there are clear reasons why he represents a case even more special than this primary. If you think that Perry will run an even-more-unlikely-to-be-credible late campaign entry than Clinton under circumstances very likely to not be as favorable to a late candidacy as they were for Clinton, well, that's just, like, your opinion, man, but that won't stop me from loling
06-12-2011 , 08:22 PM
Right, because if Perry enters he's going to wait until October.
06-12-2011 , 08:36 PM
You do realize the Clinton example is 20 years old, and things have changed a bit since then?
Hell, Humbert ****ing Humphrey entered the race a hell of a lot later than Bill Clinton. Why not use him as your example?

BTW: Could we please take this digression to the "Wookie Said Something Wrong Containment Thread"?

Serious question:

Who has read (cover to cover) more English language books in their life:

1) George W Bush

2) Sarah Palin

3) The Armenian immigrant who did my last oil change

4) LeBron James
06-12-2011 , 08:43 PM
For sure things have changed. But if we throw out data from 20 years ago then there isn't a heck of a lot of data to use. So if data from 20 years ago doesn't count then wookie's demands for data and precedent are not really reasonable. And this election does have a lot of similarities to the 1991 election: incumbent president who is popular but vulnerable if the recovery falters and a weak field of candidates to challenge him. I for sure don't think that Perry can't wait until October, but it is only June.

Bush for sure.

I personally think Perry has a better shot than anyone in the field not named Romney (****, the field is so weak he might have a better shot than all of them combined). His advisers are likely telling him the same thing. Not sure what his hair has to say about the whole thing.
06-12-2011 , 08:48 PM
His hair is terrified of Romney's hair. And for good reason.

I'd say it's even money if Bush has ever read a real book cover to cover (excepting, of course, that Hungry ****ing Caterpillar).

Bush, though I suspect the number is low double digits.
06-12-2011 , 08:51 PM
I remember reading that Bush actually reads books regularly. Maybe I'm misremembering, idk.

Bush is a reader according to the WSJ

Yeah, it's kinda like forcing any other politician's wife to stand next to Dennis Kucinich's wife:

or Carla Bruni:

They took Karl Rove's word on it. That's enough to convince me the ****er has never read a book in his life.
06-12-2011 , 09:15 PM
Yeah lets not buy in just yet. Karl Rove is not exactly the world's most reliable source.

This is like saying that someone taking Wilt Chamberlain's word that he had sex with 20,000 women is enough to convince you that he was actually a life-long virgin.
