Bomb Blast in The Congo Bomb Blast in The Congo

Particularly from :18 - :28 just before the blast and all the "Jeezuz's", judging by the angle of the camera shot and the height of the obviously super-heated air/clouds from the blast, would anyone know if this matches the signature of a nuclear explosion? Seems like that would be pretty big political news imo.

News reports on the story are claiming that this was a munitions dump that caught fire causing several explosions, but as mentioned above, at least one of those explosions was tremendous.

I am going to have to assume this was not a nuclear explosion.

Yeah, this story indicates a fire inside a weapon depot. Pretty sad hundreds of people killed.

I read that one. Actually, I read all of them. It is terrible. Any thoughts on the funky clouds 400 feet in the air?

No knowledge of that kind of stuff. Thanks for the OP I might have missed the story otherwise.

Mushroom clouds aren't unique to nuclear bombs.

eta: I believe the Hiroshima bomb created a mushroom cloud up to 40k ft (I'm also pretty sure Hiroshima was detonated in the air instead of on impact, so I'm not sure exactly how impressive that number is.)

I read the title as 'bomb blast in Chicago'.

Smells like victory imo.

Ok, that was tasteless. Hundreds are dead. Sorry.

Still, this forum needs more explosions. If we could get a thread about exploding libertarian vaginas... damn, that would be awesome.

I'm going to hell for this post, aren't I?

Most nuclear weapons are designed to be detonated hundreds of feet above ground. It ensures the blast wave spreads out on the ground rather than creating a big crater and throwing most of the force up into the air.

And yea, any large explosion can create a shockwave and mushroom cloud.
