Are you ****ing kidding me? That wasn't an anti feminist barb like we'd all like it to have been. That woman was THE WORST political candidate we've run in living memory.
Her demeanor was grating. That's what I mean by shrill. She reminded every woman of the most ambitious ****ty woman she knew and every man of the most domineering and annoying woman he'd ever met. She was the model for Tracey Flick.
You can say that none of that should have mattered because feminism, but reality doesn't give a **** about right or wrong. She was unlikeable in a very specific way and yes part of it was related to being a woman. Being a certain gender is part of being a person, so it's not hard to believe that an unpleasant person who was also a woman would be unpleasant in a womanly way.
A lot of people probably voted against her because they couldn't stomach the idea of her talking down to them from their TV sets in her slightly condescending way for 4 years. They just viscerally reacted to her in a massively negative way.
Fun fact: Hillary Rodham wasn't even the first female president of her senior class in high school. She was a bad political candidate even against a pool of 200-500 random people (I have no idea how many people she graduated with... I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt) She never really considered running for office until someone ****ed up and convinced her to run for the Senate. Turns out you don't have to be a very good political candidate to win a senate race with enough money and enough name recognition and only slightly off peak Bill Clinton running around cheerleading. I wish she'd have lost because that would have stopped this nightmare from happening. Someone as ambitious as HRC was never NOT going to try to be the first female president if it was remotely in reach.
EDIT: And no I don't think it's too much to ask that political parties nominate candidates that are generally likeable. It's one basic fundamental thing you have to have to win high office. HRC is like 2% as charismatic as Nixon ffs. Add to that being absolutely terrible at public perception and you lose to Donald Trump. A man who was on tape talking about grabbing women by the pussy every day leading up to the election. Despite that he won white women vs Hillary. That might be the single most damning fact that anyone can throw at her. Her own gender rejected her in a stunning way.
