WASHINGTON (AP) — This Friday marked the first indefinite detention and interrogation of domestic terrorists by the National Gurad since the signing of the NDAA (National Defense Authorization Act) into law on New Year's Eve. So far the domestic terrorists appear to be the "principal instigators" of the Oakland branched Occupy Wall Street movement.
Col. Gus Hargett Jr., said "It is necessary to contain these localized threats before they can fracture into multiple operating cells. Time must be taken to ascertain that these are American citizens and not either foreign born enemy combatants or domestic sympathizers to foreign terrorists."
Overall about 60 Oakland protesters have thus been classified and remain detained for an as of yet indefinite time. Units of the National Guard are civilians under the command of state governors unless they are mobilized for federal duty, generally to augment active and reserve forces in wartime.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The FBI has been paying closer attention to 'sovereign citizen' extremists around the country out of concerns that they will react violently when they interact with government officials.
Sovereign citizens are people who reject their U.S. citizenship and don't recognize government authority, like laws and taxes. In 2009, the FBI started paying closer attention to the movement, which previously had been grouped with the militia movements in the bureau's domestic counterterrorism operations. Many people who claim to be followers of this movement are involved in white collar crimes like tax evasion schemes and making fraudulent documents, the FBI said.
Recently members of the Oakland chapter Occupy Wall Street have been classified by the FBI as sovereign citizens. Referred to by agents as "the Oakland 60" are the ringleaders of the Anti-Wall Street movement. Steve Loomer, a recently released Occupy member said, "It's just been frustrating, not being able to find work, but I realize now I've only myself to blame. Raising taxes on the 1% will just cause more people to lose their jobs."
Charges were dropped against Steve after he agreed to sign an 'affidavit of explanation' explaining his presence at the Oakland protest. Casey Carty, a supervisor in the bureau's domestic terrorism section that leads the sovereign citizen extremist program, said that people in the sovereign citizen movement do not tend to gravitate to one specific part of the country and reside in nearly every state. Carty also said that age, gender and race are not consistent among the movement's followers.
