US to declare the "homeland" a battlefield.
I rarely start threads here, but:
http://www.aclu.org/blog/national-se...y-define-being
Does anyone know anything more about this? Is this as sick as it sounds?
In support of this harmful bill, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) explained that the bill will “basically say in law for the first time that the homeland is part of the battlefield” and people can be imprisoned without charge or trial “American citizen or not.” Another supporter, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-N.H.) also declared that the bill is needed because “America is part of the battlefield.”

Affirms that the United States is in an armed conflict with al Qaeda, the Taliban, and associated forces, and that the President is authorized to detain unprivileged enemy belligerents in connection with such conflict until the termination of hostilities.

If it was co-authored by John McCain, and Lindsey Graham thinks it's a good idea... then yes, it's probably as bad as it sounds.
I don't see how this is even remotely constitutional. 800 years of habeas corpus law... but nah.

this, there is a reason John Mccain is one of the most unpopular senators in the USA right now.

Re: US to declare the "homeland" a battlefield.
I was going to start this thread last night but never got around to it. This is being voted on in the Senate Monday. Contact your Senators and tell them to oppose this.
I believe you can use this to easily contact your Senators, but you'll need to change the message as this is set up to message about SOPA, and also this will send to your Congressmen as well, so you might uncheck that option if you can.

Edit, nevermind, here's a link from the ACLU site to send the messages.
https://secure.aclu.org/site/Advocac...subsrc=fixNDAA
Everybody needs to contact their Senators on this imo.

kowboys, are you opposed to this?
OT: are you opposed to the president killing American citizens without due process? I'm not sure what your position on these issues is.

Re: US to declare the "homeland" a battlefield.
Well, to say the ACLU isn't a bunch of liberals is pretty intellectually dishonest, but it's also irrelevant to this discussion. This is insanity. This is one of those "Good intentions" laws like asset forfeiture, which was meant to take down Mafia dons but is now used to take $3500 Civics from people with felony amounts of weed. I foresee a similar outcome here. It starts with a few real terrorists but soon enough it's anyone who doesn't wear a flag pin on Friday. Turn on the telescreens, and welcome Big Brother. War is peace, love is hate.
First they came for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a communist, then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for the Jews and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak up.

Re: US to declare the "homeland" a battlefield.
What did 'they' mean when 'they' said: "Better to fight 'them' over there than here on our homeland"?

Whoa there! Stop with the Nineteen Eighty-Four references/comparisons, it is not as if the US Government is like Oceania: constantly changing alliances and in perpetual state of war.
Also, this is a good idea, how else are we to find and eliminate members of society who are capable of the mere thought of challenging ruling authority?

On a serious note wtf? The world is a battle field? There is no way this can end well. 0% chance.
