No thread????

Quote:
The US ambassador to Libya is among four Americans killed in an attack on the US consulate in the eastern Libyan city of Benghazi, President Barack Obama has confirmed.

Unidentified armed men stormed the grounds on Tuesday night in a protest over a US-produced film that is said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.
Some Coptic Egyptian ex-pats who now live in America made a movie that targets Muslims and obv got people pissed off. Mmmmm religion.

ha, so the reporting on this has been off wrt to the film

Quote:
The spark that provoked this sudden spasm of rage appears to be a virtually unknown anti-Islamic video allegedly promoted by notorious Muslim-baiting American preacher Terry Jones. According to the Wall Street Journal and the Associated Press, the film was produced by a 52-year-old Israeli-American Islamophobe in Southern California named Sam Bacile. The Atlantic published a useful explainer on the film in question, along with several clips. One trailer shows a bearded, frenzied Muslim mob attacking an upstanding Christian doctor and his family. The film also depicts the Prophet Muhammad as a dimwitted and lecherous “bastard” and includes a borderline pornographic depiction of Muhammad’s courtship with his first wife Khadija. It is, to put it bluntly, deeply nasty and hopelessly amateur—resembling the class project of a particularly bigoted set of Sunday school students.

Too bad Terry Jones didn't die instead of Chris Stevens.

Who cares what the film is like, or about, or who made it? Are you suggesting their actions can be justified?

You are really ignorant, so let me educate you.

If you knew anything about Terry Jones, you'd know the kind of **** his action has started before and he KNOWS what this leads to. It was extremely irresponsible of him to do this but he obv doesn't care. CLEARLY, the morons in Benghazi are to blame for their murder of our ambassador but absolving some religious nut job of blame is wrong as well.

Fox News is throwing out the long-discredited "Obama apology tour!" lie.

Ofc those ****wits in their desperation decide to make this about the election when what we should really be talking about is the hatred that their ilk continue to propagate to no good end.

muslim nut jobs

anyone from the muslim world lamenting how the motivation of this attack will be misrepresented by the american media* (which it isn't, at least on MSNBC) is a hater of the shining city ldo.

RIP Christopher Stevens

I'm ignorant? you are the one that is suggesting that there is some moral equivalent between an inflammatory film and the murder of innocent diplomats.

The content of the movie is irrelevant.

Yes, the content of the movie is irrelevant. A few dead people every now and then is a price I think we should be willing to pay to keep our freedom of expression and speech. Just treat it as any other crime and go after the perpetrators.

Incidentally, one of the others killed was a long time EVE player that many were familiar with:

Understood that the dudes who did the murdering and rioting should be held accountable. But, come on, it's the 21st century, and everyone knows that if you create a video that depicts Mohammed in such an overtly derogatory light, there will be blowback. There are better methods of getting your message out instead of doing something that risks other people's lives on the other side of the world.

I would love to hear what the Egyptian Coptic Christians think about the video being produced...

Shouldn't you really be blaming the media for covering this film? Terry Jones didn't go to Libya and piss these *******s off. The real irresponsible parties here are the major media outlets. They knew what sort of reaction might happen. We need more responsible press that censors these kinds of events.

idk why the hell Terry Jones is doing such things. It should be painfully obvious that activities such as this would be counter productive to his interests as the Dallas Cowboys owner.

Pull every ****ing ambassador out of these third world desert ****holes, kick their ambassadors out of the US, and wash our hands of these ****ers I say.

Blowback.

While the "well, let's not say stuff that may upset this one group "-approach is completely risk free and can have no negative consequences. Rewarding their violence with what they want (silencing and condemning the critics) is an excellent idea.

BTW, you comments are upsetting to me and may make me violent. I trust you to not make any comments like this again, as you are now aware of the potential consequences.

There's a time and place to talk about Terry Jones and the dangers of his rhetoric. This probably isn't that time or place though.

does. not. matter.

the attackers are one thousand percent to blame here. there is no sharing of responsibility whatoever UNLESS you think that killing people over blasphemy is in some small measure justifiable.
