While I can think of it, I wanted to know all of your thoughts about whether a convicted criminal (who was charged with terrorist offences and still openly supports terrorist organisations but has served his time) should be allowed to be in an audience and ask questions of a politician on live tv?

Should it be allowed due to free speech or is it inappropriate and just giving a platform to terrorists?

Thoughts?

Note the recent example here in Aus:

What are you worried about, the terrorist out debating the politician?

Well considering he appears to be a perfectly free man, he should be able to say what he damn well pleases. It's on the moderator of the interview to permit it or not.

Seems like it was a fruitful discussion. Trying to see where they gave the guy a weekly 30 minutes show or something that would be construed as "giving a platform"

We have a lot of this in the UK with former IRA terrorists now even serving as parliamentary MP's.

Similar things happened in Cambodia and South Africa, of course.

If it progresses the course of peace and reconciliation then it's a good thing imo.

Yes and it's often a good thing.

Zaky Mallah is a moron who has taken absolutely no responsibility for what he said (he miscommunicated pretty spectacularly), but I don't think it was wrong of the show/ABC to allow him to speak and air what he said.

He basically said 'the new government policies fully justify Australian muslims to go overseas and join ISIS'. The worry (which I don't share) is that after a nationwide airing of this more people will go join ISIS.

Also I think OP was wrong, I don't think this guy is a current advocate of terrorist organisations. He used to endorse Al Qaeda, and he is a fan of the idea of a Muslim caliphate, but a caliphate doesn't necessarily mean a terrorist state right?
