Nobody is getting "called out of line" AFAIK. Everyone goes through the scanner unless you opt out, then you get the groping.

Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

many people go just through the normal metal detector - some are "randomly" selected for the naked machine - if they opt out of the naked machine - they get the grope.

As I mentioned above - my Wife was "randomly" selected by the guy operating the metal detector - he gave her a little elevator eyes - got a half grin on his face - and said "you've been selected for the body scan" (or some such).

how they could expect a human to be 'random' is beyond me.

Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

Heard a story about this on NPR this morning. Some flyer's group is basically suggesting that everyone opt out, get groped, and slow the system to a crawl as a protest. FWIW, I'm guessing this is unlikely to happen. Sheeple gotta be sheeple.

No, you get picked out of line to go through the scanner.

Stuff like this would just piss me off to no end:

Quote:
Last week, one of my flying partners (Captain with Skywest) was going through security at DEN with his 18 year daughter. As his daughter approached the detector, the TSO working the NoS said on his headset, "heads up, got a cutie for you." He then confronted the TSA clerk with what he said and that neither of us are going through the NoS. The TSA clerk said you must have misunderstood me.

He said pat-down was pretty evasive, and his daughter felt uncomfortable.

I wonder how discreetly I'd be able to hang out outside of the screening area at my airport and tally the statistics.

While not answering the question (although more on that below), what I'm claiming is that there is very little sincere opposition to this -- the left doesn't want to criticize their own President and their administration, and the right's concerns are just cynical.

So I'd say tom's question is the wrong one, or at least I'd restate it to say that there's probably some lobbying interests pressuring to have more machines/blah blah, but more importantly, there's probably the perception that the administration needs to be seen as taking steps toward "making air travel safer"; that's what I think the support for this is. And that's real -- there are people out there who feel better with all this security theater, and people profiting from that, so the Obama admin is playing off of that; So the real question is -- who opposes this?

I would say that what sincere opposition that does exist is not really political: it's trade unions and consumers, the travel industry, etc.

The TSA bullying pisses me off just as much as anything else. This is like a power-tripping cop-wanna-be pedophiles wet dream job.
I mean its all, well mostly all, about making a show and appearing to do something. But that post just reeks of hard right dog whistling.

Think this depends on the airport. Pretty sure last time I went through LAX every person got scanned. I'm assuming that's what that device you went through and held your hands above your head was. They also wait for confirmation before letting you pass after the scan.

Other airports like Milwaukee, Seattle, Minneapolis just have standard metal detectors everyone goes through with the occasional person being scanned.

Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

Can someone explain the claim that when I buy an airline ticket and show up at an airport I am waiving my rights to not be molested and/or blasted with radiation?

I mean, the part I don't understand is how it is remotely possible that I would be fined for leaving the premises instead of allowing myself to be subjected to these ridiculous screening techniques.

Where in writing am I agreeing to this situation?

Oh, this is just temporary at the airports where they don't have enough of the scanners yet. Eventually the regular metal detectors will be gone.

Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

so your source is the head of the CAIR and cnsnews?

what you're reading is what the CAIR is telling muslim women to say and/or claim during a pat down.

Nowhere does it say the TSA will comply - essentially it is the same as me sending out a memo that says "I recommend that if your 15 year old daughter is going to get a pat down - you should tell the TSA that they are only allowed to search her toes"

I was speaking to the fact that the vast majority of people picked out of line are attractive females, which is utter ********. Everywhere I look, there are stories about hot wives, hot daughters, and an uncannily disproportionate amount of women in general being pulled from lines.

It's just unchecked sexual discrimination with a perverted twist to it.
They should document the demographics of all persons taken out of line, and on top of that all communications through those headsets should be recorded for future evaluation if necessary.

Re: The TSA - Fondling your junk, for safety

the CAIR site - which gives example of women in Hijab getting the full grope:
http://www.cair.com/ArticleDetails.a...=n&&currPage=1

from that site - a message to women who wear the hijab

* If you opt out of the full-image body scanner, you have the right to request that the manual search be conducted in private.
* It is your right to be screened by an officer of the same gender. The TSA states in its Head-to-Toe Screening Policies: "It is TSA's policy that passengers should be screened by an officer of the same gender in a professional, respectful manner."
* If you experience any disturbing incidents with the new pat down procedure, particularly if you feel you have been subjected to religious or racial profiling, harassment or unfair treatment, immediately file a complaint with the TSA and report the incident to your local CAIR chapter.

Special recommendations for Muslim women who wear hijab:

* If you are selected for secondary screening after you go through the metal detector and it does not go off, and "sss" is not written on your boarding pass, ask the TSA officer if the reason you are being selected is because of your head scarf.
* In this situation, you may be asked to submit to a pat-down or to go through a full body scanner. If you are selected for the scanner, you may ask to go through a pat-down instead.
* Before you are patted down, you should remind the TSA officer that they are only supposed to pat down the area in question, in this scenario, your head and neck. They SHOULD NOT subject you to a full-body or partial-body pat-down.
* You may ask to be taken to a private room for the pat-down procedure.
* Instead of the pat-down, you can always request to pat down your own scarf, including head and neck area, and have the officers perform a chemical swipe of your hands.
* If you encounter any issues, ask to speak to a supervisor immediately. They are there to assist you.

i'm a conservative - but the people (meaning the blogger cited above) and 'entertainers' who blatantly lie with the sole purpose of getting people all riled up - and garnering ratings - are annoying as hell.

Also, the opt-out pat down in super invasive, probably either in retaliation for you being defiant or else to intimidate others to go through to scanner. It involves front of hand touching that includes on and under women's breasts, between your butt cheeks, and your genitals.

Also, some airports have something that blurs out your genitals on the scanner (for privacy reasons) so they have to pat you down afterwards. The TSA: groping your genitals to preserve your dignity and privacy
