stuff like this makes me the most angry, when people are purposefully manipulating and deceiving each other. it's apparently not enough that politicians are doing it.

Parents blast school after Trump-loving students tell black kids to get in the back of the bus
Quote:
The protest stemmed from an incident Thursday when a group of students on a school bus chanted “Trump” while two white students told their black peers to sit in the back of the bus.

“I’m outraged, I’m saddened, I’m disgusted,” alumni Melanie Hancock told Fox 2 Now.
Tango Walker Jackson, whose 15-year-old daughter was on the bus, said Thursday’s event was “not an isolated incident.”

“This is the fifth racially charged incident with my daughter since the beginning of the school year,” Walker Jackson told the meeting.

Re: Trump's America

All these news stories about high schoolers and even middle schoolers—so what? There's a reason 15-year-olds can't vote—they lack the mental faculties to make prudent decisions. The same can be said for most people of voting age, but still, we need to draw a line somewhere. Am I going to be reading headlines soon about how a 7-year-old in Mississippi names his cat Darky? I doubt these oblivious kids are suddenly changing their behavior because they sense a shift in the zeitgeist now that Trump is poised to preside. It's just that these sensationalist dog **** media outlets are pushing these stories and sore anti-Trumpers are pervading them through social media.

It's where a bunch of people get together. You're also seeing incidents at colleges and at bars, because that's where a lot of people meet and there are more chances for people of different races and political temperaments interacting.

It is clearly connected and is important because this is normalising white supremacism for the next generation of voters.

Are you a white supremacist? Are you acting dumb?

My wife and I have decided to review all donations we make in light of the recent events. Planned Parenthood and Black Lives Matter will feature but if anyone has experience of other organisations work for those who are likely to be hit hardest by the election of Trump I'd be really happy to hear of them.

Great news dereds! You already mentioned Planned Parenthood and BLM. Here are a couple of other worthwhile ones (from this article):

Quote:
Center for Reproductive Rights
The center aims to legally advocate for reproductive rights, including access to birth control, safe abortion procedures, and unbiased sources of information.

Natural Resources Defense Council
Those worried about a Trump administration’s approach to climate change — with renowned skeptic Myron Ebell set to handle the Environmental Protection Agency transition — will want to donate to the NRDC. The group works to safeguard communities across the globe, pushing for environmental laws that help protect the ecosystem.

International Refugee Assistance Project
Trump has previously said that Syrian refugees “could be one of the great Trojan horses” and has called for a ban on Muslims entering the United States. Supporting the IRAP will ensure refugees get the legal support they need, with or without the support of the U.S. president.

NAACP Legal Defense Fund
The president-elect has a disturbing record of being sued for refusing to rent houses to African-Americans and believing that “laziness is a trait in blacks.” Supporting the NAACP Legal Defense Fund will protect minorities’ civil rights from a man who believes a judge’s heritage dictates their biases.

The Trevor Project
Trump’s vice president famously believes that gay people can be converted through electro shock therapy. Those worried about the influence Pence may have on the executive branch should consider donating to the Trevor Project, which aims to provide resources for LGBT individuals and offer suicide prevention services.

Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund
Following Trump’s comments that a judge of Mexican heritage may represent a conflict of interest, readers may be interested in donating to MALDEF, which seeks to help Mexican Americans and support them in legal issues.

Make the donation in the name of Mike Pence. I just usually give to the local food bank this time of year, they can always use it.

A donation made in the name of a racist aunt or uncle makes a great Thanksgiving/Christmas gift for said aunt or uncle.

Re: Trump's America

Thanks everyone going to spend a bit of time reviewing these while the recurring donations we have set up lapse and introduce a number into our giving in time for the Trump presidency.

Cheers

It's always nice to create family riffs around the holidays.

They're the ones that voted for Trump. The idea of a riff-free holidays this year is gonna be pretty much nil for most people. Except that I guess a lot of people just aren't gonna show up so it might be a lot of monolithic get-togethers.

I don't know what you mean by "it." If by "it" you mean high school and middle school kids being racist and cruel, I disagree that it is connected to Trump's election. Five years ago you could have cherry picked just as many stories of equal racist magnitude, but back then there wasn't a freaked-out narrative that people like you were lapping up and aching to confirm with retweets and Facebook posts, so media outlets didn't bother finding and publishing them. I don't have stats on this, but neither do you, and I think it's more reasonable to assume kids aren't suddenly emboldened by Trump's election to now act like little clansmen across the country.

Think it might be connected to this?

Over 200 Incidents of Hateful Harassment and Intimidation Since Election Day

Reports of hateful intimidation and harassment erupted across social media networks in the wake of the presidential election Tuesday night.

Pulling from news reports, social media, and direct submissions at the Southern Poverty Law Center's website, the SPLC had counted 201 incidents of election-related harassment and intimidation across the country as of Friday, November 11 at 5pm. These range from anti-Black to anti-woman to anti-LGBT incidents. There were many examples of vandalism and epithets directed at individuals. Often times, types of harassment overlapped and many incidents, though not all, involved direct references to the Trump campaign. Every incident could not be immediately independently verified.

Among the findings:

Anti-Black and Anti-immigrant incidents were far and away the most reported with anti-Muslim being the third most common. The category of "Trump" consisted of incidents where there was no clear racially defined target, like the pro-Trump vandalism of a "unity" sign in Connecticut.

Re: Trump's America

This is a pretty amazing "how screwed up are things in this country right now" story.

http://www.slate.com/blogs/the_slate...hysically.html

Basically, when Megyn Kelly was getting death threats from Trump supporters, one of his top guys tweeted that she should be "gutted," which prompted a discussion between the Trump campaign and Fox news how it would be bad for the Trump campaign if one of his supporters did actually end up killing her.

'Trump for President' knife used in homophobic hate crime incident
Quote:
When the men returned home from their respective workplaces Tuesday night, they found a note that used a gay slur, “f**s, go back to Cal!” according to an incident report from MPD.

The message was pinned to a package by a “sharp folding knife that has a picture of the newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump on the handle,” Officer Darryl Sanders reported.
