I think there is a psychological barrier in the minds of players and coaches as far as race and positions in football. That goes for white cornerbacks and black quarterbacks.

I'm not saying different groups of people necessarily have equal potential, but unequal results do not prove unequal potential.

But there is also evidence in regards to potential to run fast has a lot to do with body type and having a higher center of gravity.

Despite the fact that there's a white guy faster than all but about 8 black guys in the world, maybe sprinting is one thing that will never change, but when I was 20 there were no white heavyweight contenders, one black quarterback, no white rappers, no hope of a black president, no black golfers, fewer white basketball players, etc.

The problem with using this example is the fact that the media has repeatedly said "why aren't there more black QB's".

This is so far from what I was saying it's pretty astounding. You have such a strong filter in your brain that virtually nothing gets through.

The white guy is Christophe Lamaitre. He's the first white guy to break 10.0 in the 100m (disputed though). I don't know exactly where he is on the sprinter standings, but he's won Gold in several European Championships and Silver and Bronze in world championships.

In part I was thinking about him, in part on an article I read years ago (and can't find) about the psychological barrier for white sprinters as well as bias. White sprinters themselves don't feel they can make it to the elite levels and also in track, even the fastest white sprinters are steered towards longer distances. I don't know or endorse this book, but "Race and Reality" by Guy Harrison goes into some of this.

In football are black players steered towards black positions and white players towards white positions? I would think so. I would think it mostly happens before they get into the NFL. I know many athletic black HS quarterbacks get moved to other positions in college. Maybe guys like Steve Young who was 205lbs and ran the 40 in 4.55s (Jerry Rice ran it in 4.71s) would have been moved to another position instead of ending up being the 2nd all time leading rushing QB.
