Dbl you've known lots and lots of cops and maybe I'm completely wrong here. If someone ends up nose to nose with two average cops holding a deadly weapon and those cops are expecting to confront a dangerous felon, is there a significant difference in how often the cops shoot based on the specific weapon being held?

Re: Sorry officer you got the wrong address...
This thread is interesting because I was very anti-guns when I was younger. But polemics with those who support the right to bear arms changed my views. Too bad some people cannot weigh out issues fairly.

Not much, although the training will play a factor. These idiots were clearly undertrained for the task at hand.
Guys that haven't been through hardcore simunitions training or something similar will freak out, shoot a guy with a bat/knife thats beyond range, will fail to ID & Command, etc.

Re: Sorry officer you got the wrong address...
What I am wondering is if the cops involved in this shooting even bothered getting intel from anywhere.
How did they even show up at the wrong door in the first place?

Anonymous intel, likely. Well run depts have Fugitive units with well trained operators who do nothing day in and day out but serve high risk warrants or train serving high risk warrants.

My mistake. I re-read and you are right. The wording was funny and made me laugh.

Apparently someone spotted the guy they were looking for at the apartment complex where the victim lived. The fugitive's bike was "across" from the victim's front door.

I meant more on the terms if they contacted their HQ to verify addresses on the perp.

I don't think the fugitive lived in the apartment complex.

You could make an entire thread on why that happened*, but in the meantime lol at that not being a great argument that gun control works.
* well, I could cos I lived through it and thought about it a lot, its a really complex problem that happened

Re: Sorry officer you got the wrong address...
The pro-move here is to set up a surveillance man in the parking lot, confirm that is in fact the targets motorcycle, if so place marked units near every exit, put a takedown team in an unmarked vehicle near the bike, K9 on scene, then send two uniformed officers to the door. He either let's them in and is arrested without incident or runs, in which case he's either tackled, dogbit, tased, or all of the above.

It's not really an argument worth repeating. The fact is, research shows that while UK gun violence is lower than US gun violence, a little historical research shows UK gun violence has ALWAYS been lower than US gun violence.
Even before the massive UK gun bans were implemented.
With slightly more research you will further discover UK gun violence hasn't significantly dropped from pre-ban rates, its only slightly dropped off.

How does the UK's gun violence compare to Switzerland, where all adult males have assault rifles in their homes?
