This is the problem with the war on terrorism. It's like the war on drugs - unless there is a policy change and the government basically decides to end them, they will never end. Because there are always going to be drugs and people using them, and there are always going to be people that hate the U.S.

You can't really blame them... After all the CIA overthrough the democratically elected govt of Iran and installed the Shah, eventually leading to the Islamic revolution in Iran. At which point we then supported Saddam while still selling weapons to both sides. Of course, we then decided we no longer approved of Saddam after he invaded Kuwait (after we told him we would stay out of it) and so then we had to bring Iraq freedom and democracy after 9/11. All the while we've support some of the most repressive un-Democratic regimes in the region.

Yeah, the level of "consent" you're referring to is approximately equivalent to amount of consent local store owners give for "protection services" from the mafia. What is Yemen going to do, refuse and head to their bomb shelters as we leapfrog Yemen to the top of the "#1 Serious and Imminent Threat to America's freedom(!)" list ahead of AAA? Even if you believe that Yemen's consent was genuine and not coherced, do you think it would have stopped us if they had said, "GFY, we ain't helping you with ****."
