Isn't the assumption that if 3 GOPers vote no on Sessions or Tillerson they are probably out? You assume McCain and Graham are likely no voters right now, so Rubio going no should seal it.

"Yes Rex we completely believe because it is totes believable that it is entirely possible that Exxonmobil was lobbying FOR sanctions that would hurt its business. Moving on to your Eagle Scout career..."

Tillerson might be in trouble. I wonder if Rubio et al is hoping that they can get Romney if they sink him.

Does Tillerson think he was nominated for SCOTUS? I've seen less evasive answers in SCOTUS nomination hearings.

McCain and Graham are still favorites to vote to confirm. Prediction markets have them around 65-70%. And this all assumes no Ds defect. Rubio (or Paul) could stop it from ever getting out of committee if they defect and the D members are united against. Most likely though, a few guys ask some tough questions but ultimately vote to confirm.

I'm never going to Exxon again. Boycotting anything Trump is already obvious. Also, no more Carl's Jr.

After watching on and off today the best, and maybe only chance of Tillerson not getting confirmed is Rubio not letting it get out of comittee. I don't think it's very likely, but maybe he exacts a little revenge against Trump. I have mixed feelings because while Tillerson worries me, he is pretty far down the list of Cabinet picks I think need blocked.

So apparently Coretta Scott King wrote a letter putting Sessions on blast in 1986, but the letter was never entered into the record because of course if wasn't and now the WaPo is publishing it:

Quote:
"Anyone who has used the power of his office as United States Attorney to intimidate and chill the free exercise of the ballot by citizens should not be elevated to our courts,” King wrote in the cover page of her nine-page letter opposing Sessions’s nomination, which failed. “Mr. Sessions has used the awesome powers of his office in a shabby attempt to intimidate and frighten elderly black voters. For this reprehensible conduct, he should not be rewarded with a federal judgeship.”

In the letter, King writes that Sessions’s ascension to the federal bench “simply cannot be allowed to happen,” arguing that as a U.S. attorney, the Alabama lawmaker pursued “politically-motivated voting fraud prosecutions” and that he “lacks the temperament, fairness and judgment to be a federal judge.” She said Sessions’s conduct in prosecuting civil rights leaders in a voting-fraud case “raises serious questions about his commitment to the protection of the voting rights of all American citizens.”

“The irony of Mr. Sessions’ nomination is that, if confirmed, he will be given a life tenure for doing with a federal prosecution what the local sheriffs accomplished twenty years ago with clubs and cattle prods,” she wrote, later adding, “I believe his confirmation would have a devastating effect on not only the judicial system in Alabama, but also on the progress we have made toward fulfilling my husband’s dream.”

He's the only one who may not get confirmed, though. All the rest are certain.

Wouldn't knowing about political lobbies be something totally on the radar of the CEO?

Unfortunately, many people will now read this as great reasons for confirmation.

After watching today's hearing, if he gets confirmed my money is on him being by far the best appointment DJT makes in a tallest midget sense.

Corker literally said he spoke with him about it.
01-11-2017 , 08:33 PM
I was surprised on how little he seemed prepared honestly.

Agree with this. Actually hoping for the confirmation. Better Tillerson than some loon like Bolton.
01-11-2017 , 09:22 PM
Good use of the Overton window suggesting Bolton first and then Tillerson

The real red flag for me today was his answer in regards to discussions with Trump about Russia. How did that not warrant a follow up question, instead of a muttered snarky comment? I would think the fact that that conversation had not taken place says more to Trump than the preparedness of Tillerson, either way it's worrisome.

PS: O hey I wonder why Coretta's letter never saw the light of day until now?

Cowardly **** needed a safe space from an elderly widow's strongly-worded letter.

Omg you know that every single "I don't know/I'm not familiar with that" is nothing more than an excuse not to expose their atrocious past statements and actions on the topic?

Man listening to Carson and it's like the 1970's all over again. "Washington bureaucrats wanting these kinds of people in these kinds of places" and "don't understand the local needs of people"
