Senate Confirmation Hearings Discussion Senate Confirmation Hearings Discussion

It's mostly not the questions, it's just that it's too easy to give an answer that sounds reasonable. These candidates should be evaluated on their answers mostly just to make sure they aren't idiots. Knowing what is an acceptable answer or not is pretty trivial. Base the confirmation on these people's history and background. They're all old and have done a lot of things they can be judged by.

Sessions totally dodging Leahy's question about whether he would go after marijuana users

with a smirk

He once asked for death penalty for 2nd offense drug traffickers including marijuana?!

WAAF

JS - If we wanted legal marijuana then we should legislate it to be legal federally. It would not be my job to write law but to enforce the existing ones.

Yep, legal weed looks ****ed.

wow Sessions has no ****ing clue how immigration courts work--they are ABSOLUTELY under the DOJ and in his control
01-10-2017 , 04:33 PM
Hatch: Senator Sessions, when will you be cracking the skulls of all these commie hippies who hate cops and America?

Maybe it is because i don´t care enough, about those nominees but compared to Trump they seem all reasonable to me.

Didn't mock any disabled, no insane tweets in the middle of the night, no excessive level of nepotism. All good to go.

O hay I wonder if maybe the Dems should have mentioned Hillary's stance on decriminalizing weed instead of running ads with Trump saying goofy **** during the campaign.

Ted Bundy seemed outwardly reasonable, too.

Jeff Sessions said he thought the KKK was ok until he found out that they smoked marijuana.

He's just smart enough to not be himself in a confirmation hearing.

Hey, remember how Obama held rallies where he told people he'd be lax on marijuana raids and then people showed up to vote for him? Seems like that may have been a teachable moment.

Climate change question incoming...

... and dodged.

Maybe they thought they couldn't stop Sessions, but might have a chance stopping Pruitt or someone else? I'm grasping here, but one can hope.

They're worried about a 2018 bloodbath, based on the seats up for grabs, if Trump is even remotely successful.

It will make their case stronger if accept the first few but then jump down the throat of one they definitely don't want.

Otherwise they'll just be pawned off as being obstructionists by the ruling party which will probably cost them in 2018 (somewhat ironic that it would for them but not for GOP).

Hooray gerrymandering.

While this will probably be obscure news in the shadow of PISSGATE, Republicans have agreed to delay hearings for four candidates due to background checks/ethics investigations not yet being done

Quote:
Hearings for Betsy DeVos, Mr. Trump’s choice to lead the Department of Education; Andrew Puzder, his labor secretary nominee; and Representative Mike Pompeo, Republican of Kansas, Mr. Trump’s pick to lead the Central Intelligence Agency, have all been pushed back as Democrats clamor for more time to collect and review the standard background checks that nominees traditionally undergo before their hearings commence.

Wilbur Ross, Mr. Trump’s pick for secretary of commerce, will also be delayed several days because his ethics agreement is not complete, according to the chairman and ranking Democrat of the commerce committee.
