G20 sweat thread G20 sweat thread

No thread on the G20 summit yet? Any expections? Thoughts?

Here's a link to the SPIEGEL live newsblog in English. As the SPIEGEL is located in Hamburg it should be pretty solid. It also has a live stream included; the commentary is in German though.

I don't exactly want violent street protests in the US, but damn is our radical left pathetic compared to Europe.

i believe that hamburg was a hotbed of german socialism pre-ww2, looks like it still might be

prolly a bad place to hold the meeting

I'm about to the point where I want to say **** it, burn everything down and kill everyone you see. Maybe we need a new civil war or something.

the only reason poland isnt in the g20 is due to bad accounting.

It's been ruled by people from the right wing of the social democrats or by christian democrats for decades. So, the short answer is no.

However it has been a hotbed for anarchist-leftist violence for the 1st of May and such. Both the Hamburg police and the Hamburg anarchists have a reputation of escalating things quickly.

I would say it's a bad place to stage this whole thing.

The police seems to employ some Roman army tactics:

Also Putin is late to the concert lol.
07-07-2017 , 01:49 PM
Right now the live stream shows the concert (Beethoven's 9th) on one side, and the protest one the other. Pretty bizarre.
07-07-2017 , 01:57 PM
The concert is actually a real treat. Trump looks bored though.

I always wonder why they do this in a big city. This basically shuts the city down for a week. Why not have it at camp David or a similar location?
07-07-2017 , 02:58 PM
Some impressions from the concert stream:

The police seems to have largely retreated; the violent protesters feed the fire undisturbed.

edit: the police is now coming back in force.

They probably wanted to show off the new concert hall. It is a nice concert hall though.
