OK. I'm gonna go dids on the trigger stuff. Not only is it not funny, but I'd say it's a decent example of rape culture and misogyny and you guys should stop it.

It's basically men telling other men "ha. You're just like a whiny women complaining about being raped. You loser"

Foldn is mad at letting lgbt youth talk to someone. Far more likely there's some confusion going on somewhere.

Foldn care to clarify if you have any objection to such a thing at all and if so why?

No, I support LGBT kids. My concerns are more in line with those expressed by President Obama about freedom of expression, and why avoiding arguments you disagree with are not a good way to learn anything.

I hope you guys are right and it's just being overblown by all those professors, guys like Chris Rock and Seinfeld who won't do gigs at schools anymore because nobody can take a joke, and Obama, et al.

oh, guy used 'rising odds' not as in 'likelihood of winning are increasing', but instead as 'longer odds'.

Yo rugby just to make it clear I think you're not a woman at all. You are, however, all of those other things and it's hilarious that you jump to women when someone describes your own whiny bull****

Still waiting for Ikes/Lou to tell me specifically what policies of Kasichs they like or why they think he would make a good president.

Re: Who Will Be The 2016 Republican Nominee?

The issue which the Singal NyMag article gets at is that there are things that can trigger PTSD episodes, and those things should be handled carefully.

But the example he gives of like, people being "triggered" by discussion of the military as a concept breaks down. What is being triggered in those people? A dislike of militarism? When a war veteran gets his PTSD triggered by watching Saving Private Ryan the phrase makes sense.

But it just says so ****ing much how BOLD and STRONG our nation's pundit class is when it comes to telling powerless campus activists that they are whiny morons they're in full shirt-rending macho mode, but we're pretty much completely unwilling to call Donald Trump and his voters racist morons.

Also, like I said, literally no demographic in the world is more oversensitive than the internet reactionary/MRA/Gamergate/alt-right/Breitbart types who **** their pants in outrage 24/7 at SJWs doing, uh, pretty much anything.

Same reason TRUMP got so much airtime even when he was considered a no-hoper.

People saying outrageous crap is good for ratings, and gets your show attention from other shows.

So after a dozen or so pages of evasion we've finally got our concrete example of the actual harm done by SJWs and it's... stand-up comics getting their feelings hurt?

Also, I'm not an expert in the industry or anything, but were Seinfeld and Chris Rock really doing a lot of college shows back before whenever safe spaces made people unwilling to take a joke(2014?). Neither of them really struck me as within the Student Affairs Fund budget for Western Arkansas State.

Re: Who Will Be The 2016 Republican Nominee?

Saw carrot top in 1996 in college. Was funny as hell actually, at least to drunken college me. All prop comedy. Seinfeld and Rock were huge well before then. At this point they have other people cut their food and answer their door. Stewart lee used to do student gigs and tell them they were **** and they threw glasses at him. Thats even worse than the glare of a sorority girl.

This **** is getting too real.

Political strategist and Donald Trump backer Roger Stone is embracing his inner thug. If his candidate doesn't win the Republican presidential nomination outright on the first ballot, Stone plans to get up close and personal with the newly free-agent delegates who will choose the nominee. He's already said that "Trump Nation," as he calls the Republican front-runner's supporters, will hold mass protests outside the convention. But that's only the beginning.

"We will disclose the hotels and the room numbers of those delegates who are directly involved in the steal," he told a radio interviewer today. And he will send Trump supporters to those rooms.

"If you're from Pennsylvania, we'll tell you who the culprits (Pennsylvania delegates) are," Stone said. "We urge you to visit their hotel and find them. You have a right to discuss this, if you voted in the Pennsylvania primary, for example, and your votes are being disallowed."

You mean this speech?

Quote:
“Being a good citizen, being an activist, involves hearing the other side and making sure that you are engaging in a dialogue because that’s also how change happens,” said President Obama in the seven-minute interview. “The civil rights movement happened because there was civil disobedience, because people were willing to go to jail, because there were events like Bloody Sunday, but it was also because the leadership of the movement consistently stayed open to the possibility of reconciliation and sought to understand the views, even views that were appalling to them, of the other side.”

The president said he discusses these issues with his daughters around the dinner table. He told Stephanopoulos that while he wants his daughters to stand up for society’s voiceless and vulnerable, he also wants them to hear out the other side’s arguments.

“I tell them, I want you also to be able to listen. I don’t want you to think that a display of your strength is simply shutting other people up, and that part of your ability to bring about change is going to be by engagement and understanding the viewpoints and the arguments of the other side,” President Obama said.

“And so when I hear, for example, folks on college campuses saying, ‘We’re not going to allow somebody to speak on our campus because we disagree with their ideas or we feel threatened by their ideas,’ I think that’s a recipe for dogmatism and I think you’re not going to be as effective.”

The president went on to discuss why he believes free speech is a crucial component of a well-functioning democracy. He urged activists to answer “bad ideas” with better ideas, not censorship:

“[We] have these values of free speech. And it’s not free speech in the abstract. The purpose of that kind of free speech is to make sure that we are forced to use argument and reason and words in making our democracy work. And, you know, you don’t have to be fearful of somebody spouting bad ideas. Just out-argue them. Beat ’em. Make the case as to why they’re wrong. Win over adherents. That’s how things work in a democracy.”

First they came for the past-their-prime stand-up acts, and I said nothing...

I would assume these guys did gigs at large university venues back in the day, there's no real reason they couldn't continue to do so other than they've moved upmarket. I haven't followed this story, but I'm pretty sure it didn't play out with SJWs locking arms and barring Chris Rock from entering campus.

Maybe he actually likes doing standup?

Then he'd probably love to do smallish shows at colleges like he probably did coming up, but he's worried that his material will freak out the special snowflakes.

I don't think Seinfeld ever said he did college shows. He just said he wouldn't do them because campuses are too politically correct.

Quote:
Like Chris Rock and Larry the Cable Guy, Jerry Seinfeld avoids doing shows on college campuses. And while talking with ESPN’s Colin Cowherd on Thursday, the comedian revealed why: College kids today are too politically correct.

“I hear that all the time,” Seinfeld said on The Herd with Colin Cowherd. “I don’t play colleges, but I hear a lot of people tell me, ‘Don’t go near colleges. They’re so PC.’”

Seinfeld says teens and college-aged kids don’t understand what it means to throw around certain politically-correct terms. “They just want to use these words: ‘That’s racist;’ ‘That’s sexist;’ ‘That’s prejudice,’” he said. “They don’t know what the hell they’re talking about.”
