A sad day in my country

Hi fellow 2+2ers,
Today in mexico we had presidential elections.
For over 70 years the same party stayed in office (until the year 2000) and it literally costed human lifes for every inch of democracy we might have accomplished in the last years.
There is this organism called the IFE (federal elective institute for its spanish acronym) that is in charge of securing the legality of the elective process.
It was created 24 years ago as an exhaust valve for a political situation of crisis because of the '88 elections were the suspicion of fraude was sky high.
Today that party seems that will get reelected under very complicated and problematic circumstances.
Today the IFE anounced (as a propaganda strategy, it still has to be counted formally and it has to be confirmed by a special tribunal) president having information of only 7k polling booths out of over 143k total. (around... 4.89% ?)

So, I feel a little sad for my country. I wanted to come here and in the spirit of 2+2 forum say one thing:

LOL sample size!

Re: A sad day in my country

It is different from the electoral college that americans have. With no swing states or all that fancy stuff. This is a direct elective system. Every vote counts the same in every state (so no swing states to hoard attention) but the most eavily populated areas get more attention. (altought many fraudulent practices are easier to make in country side areas)
And the winner of simple majority (with multiple options instead of primarly two parties) wins the election.
Sorry if there are some mistakes in my orthography. I dont usually use political terms in english =)

I gotta ask, totally off topic here but...

Is it true where you live that bullet-proof-vest-lined clothing and armor plates in cars and SUVS is somewhat of a norm for middle class folks just trying to add an extra layer of protection against incidental violence?

Or is this a hyped up American media story?

Hahahahaha... What's really funny is that this is a legit question for the OP, but the OP thinks that the PRI had to steal this election to win it. Bear in mind that this state of affairs happened under the people he supports.

[ ] is right. (in anything)

And about the legit question... I dont think is really that all spread. maybe among the middle-upper class people. But in mexican media it has also been a little over-hiped the whole thing.

Yeah because the Zetas haven't made a cottage industry out of kidnapping and extortion or anything... And middle class people don't own businesses or have money to pay in ransoms. Dude I actually really like Mexican history and have read a lot of books about it... And I've been following the Mexican drug war very closely.

The PRD party line has been 'bad people killing bad people' but that's gotten so laughable that they've had to back off of it. There have been a lot of innocent casualties be it through mistaken identity (cartel hitmen are trigger happy in the extreme), caught in the crossfire (cartel hitmen and soldiers/police are very trigger happy), kidnapped for profit, or simply killed and dumped to intimidate someone.

i guess i would prefer to have blatantly rigged elections and open dictators than "not rigged" elections where both parties are exactly the same and steal far more from the moronic masses than any dictator could ever dream...

LOL, what's stopping you? MX decriminalized immigration recently. And it's easy as cake to work as an illegal in MX... I know because I've done it.

Or would you rather just whine incoherently?
