I think it would clearly offer a better chance of winning than RP could achieve on his own, and even if there's still no real chance, it would focus a lot of attention on the anti-3rd party laws, which could potentially help pave the way for the future.
These guys need to get more creative if they actually want to have an impact. Beginning to redraw the political lines from Republican/Democrat to Decent Person/Corrupt Douchebag would be a good start.
Every principled anti-war, anti-Fed, anti-Wall Street candidate across the spectrum should get together in a room and not leave until they've hammered out a comprehensive strategy for running the country that focuses on those main issues and compromises on all the minor policy disagreements. Uniting the disaffected on both sides could make a big dent in the status quo.
