You're the one who said that V didn't necessarily plummet during the Great Depression, you know, when UE Rate reached 25% and there were no Unemployment or SS Benefits to prop spending up. Hint: yes it did.

During the Great Depression, the velocity of money fell 22%. In tough times, people from consumers to bankers sit on more money longer.

just in case someone is still listening to you im going to reply to you once and concisely, mostly to settle any slander against me.

firstly i made no empirical comment of what happened during the great depression.

Also i hope you take advice from fisher about investing (wiki):

The stock market crash of 1929 and the subsequent Great Depression cost Fisher much of his personal wealth and academic reputation. He famously predicted, three days before the crash, "Stock prices have reached what looks like a permanently high plateau." Irving Fisher stated on October 21 that the market was "only shaking out of the lunatic fringe" and went on to explain why he felt the prices still had not caught up with their real value and should go much higher. On Wednesday, October 23, he announced in a banker’s meeting "security values in most instances were not inflated." For months after the Crash, he continued to assure investors that a recovery was just around the corner. Once the Great Depression was in full force, he did warn that the ongoing drastic deflation was the cause of the disastrous cascading insolvencies then plaguing the American economy because deflation increased the real value of debts fixed in dollar terms. Fisher was so discredited by his 1929 pronouncements and by the failure of a firm he had started that few people took notice of his "debt-deflation" analysis of the Depression.

as for buffet, i dont see what the point of bringing him up. and fwiw i've mentioned nothing about gold or hyperinflation, and did nothing to try and prove anything about either. We can have a separate discussion about it, well im not really inclined to chat with you, but anyone else who wants to bring up the points, by all means. One thing is i bet my views are staunchly further than your descriptions of them.

Also, for all this talk about Paul's amazing and loyal supporters, how come he isn't strongly out performing polls? I mean shouldn't his supporters being showing up to vote at a much higher % than others supporters since they are so much more dedicated?

Because some pollsters may massage the data such that a response for Mitt from a likely-enough-but-somewhat-soso-respondent isn't worth as much as a response from a highly passionate one. Most pollsters will also massage the data to account for demographic differences between their sample and the population of concern.

Likely voters are determined by asking the person being polled if they are very likely, somewhat likely, or not very likely to vote. Ron Paul supporters tend to answer very likely more than Romney supporters. As such, the polls take into account that Paul supporters are more likely to vote than the other candidates' supporters.
