So the tax march is a Woodrow Wilson protest? I could get behind that

This moocher, who belongs to a crank medical organization that doesn't think HIV causes AIDS but does think vaccines cause autism, takes over half a million dollars a year in OUR money lol his career is entirely funded by taxes.

"Daddy, I don't like Assad's chemicals" got Trump to release 59 tomahawks, but 10s of 1000s of marchers can't get him to release 1 tax return. Sigh.
04-15-2017 , 02:22 PM
Well his returns are arguably more explosive

He treats things that are bad for him as if they don't exist. We're just supposed to accept that, even if it's devastating for American interests. And the worse it is, the more he pushes back. This type of behavior is normal for criminals, not for presidents.

I was going to make it out to the tax march today in Birmingham but unfortunately I came down with a head cold. I'm rooting for everybody who is marching today though and I'm gonna make it out to one soon and take some pics to share with the thread. Viva la Resistance.

Brawl just broke out between supporters and opponents at Berkeley protest.

I hope the protestors won so we can dispell this myth that liberals are pussy's.

What will the tax march accomplish?

Even if he did provide returns that included deals with Russians, it's not going to change his approval ratings. The GOP will still support him.

Some semblance of transparency at the least.

Could they make it a requirement to get on the ballet in their state?

I'm not sure how it works honestly.

The primary purpose of a protest is to get people visibly involved in large numbers, to organize, and to motivate. It's a show of force and an act of solidarity. It's a chance to get media coverage. The theme of the day doesn't matter much, so long as it is reasonably related to the big picture.

Next Saturday is the March for Science. That one isn't going to be the key make-or-break protest either. It's just next week's theme in the ongoing campaign. They all matter. They all help.

We keep getting variations of this criticism, and it's like, do you guys even history? The civil rights movement lasted over a decade, and consisted of hundreds of loosely related protests, marches and actions. It took the Idiotic Right a quarter century of dedication to get to where they are now. We're not going to wrap up this whole GOP/Trump/reactionary slide to nationalism and hate in a weekend with a clever sign and a catchy chant. But we're damn sure going to lose if people fail to see the big picture and give up without even trying because geez it's taking so long and what's the point and let's shuffle off the playground with our hands in our pockets and our head down while we mutter "stupid fascists" under our breath and kick stones.

If it takes 10 years of protests to get Trump out of office we're doing it wrong.
04-15-2017 , 08:11 PM
The way I look at it, the Civil Rights movement never ended. These events are just a natural extension of that movement. And it never will end either. Democracy is a constant struggle.

It's probably going to take at least that long to undo some of the damage he's already done. We need to get him out, and then Pence, and get some sort of sane majority in both houses just to get things back to their previously sub-optimal state. Every single day, buried under all the noise, the laws, rules and traditions we rely on for a marginally just society and clean environment are being dumped wholesale. And there's still an uphill battle at the state level all over the country too.

Check out this thread. There were far-right agitators at Berkeley today and we need proper protocols for dealing with this kind of thing:

Disgusting excuse for a human being.

Antifa are a bunch of scum bags who wanted to start trouble. They were launching fireworks into crowds, pepper spraying and attacking people at every event they go to of course people are going to retaliate.

Of course the guy who socked the girl in the face is a scum bag as well though.
