Nice. Glad to see the GOP dropping any pretense of hating Big Government.

we are currently hashing over some pretty dramatic ideas, so yeah

Resistance Action Item 3/27/2017
Quote:
The Republican head of House Intelligence Committee has just canceled an open hearing into the Trump campaign’s collusion with Russia, and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is furious.

The ranking Democrat on the committee tweeted that Rep. Devid Nunes (R-CA)

“cancelled open Intelligence Committee hearing with Clapper, Brennan and Yates in attempt to choke off public info.”

This means that the public won’t have unfettered access to the testimony of the Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, and former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates when they do testify in front of the congressional oversight body.

Rep. Schiff called Rep. Nunes’s move to keep the testimony from the public a “serious mistake” that was the result of pushback from Trump’s White House.

“We don’t welcome cutting off access to public information,” he said.

Rep. Nunes’ latest evasive move has increased the calls from the Democratic side of the aisle to appoint an independent prosecutor to look into the accusations of potentially treasonous collusion with Russia that have dogged the Trump camp since the election.

Just yesterday, Rep. Nunes was forced to apologize to his fellow committee members for leaking information from intelligence documents directly to the White House – that is the subject of the investigation before sharing it with the committee. Trump used the information from Nunes as justification of his twitter rant accusing President Obama of “wiretapping” Trump Tower.

hi everyone im here to help the resistance

Welcome Dr. Spaceman! Your help is much needed.

Resistance Action Items 3/30/2017

Share some ways you've been resisting with the rest of the group.

Call your Senators and tell them to filibuster Neil Gorsuch.
There are many reasons why but here's a good article on it from Senator Warren.
https://www.bostonglobe.com/opinion/...XhJ/story.html

Call your Senators and Representative and tell them to support Universal Health Care. There is a bill going around the House right now called "Medicare for All." Tell your House Rep to support the bill and tell your Senator to support UHC more generally.
https://berniesanders.com/medicareforall/

Call some members of the House Intelligence Committee, especially Devin Nunes, demand that Nunes recuses himself and that he allows the investigation to continue. So far he has cancelled public hearings, and now he has cancelled regular ongoing meetings including meetings of the committee outside of the Trump-Russia issue. The committee, which has been a strong bipartisan institution for a long time, has basically ceased to function. Even some Republicans are calling for him to recuse himself. He was on the Trump transition team and he has shown very poor judgement in his recent handling of intelligence vis-a-vis the White House and Trump.

Call and let them know this is unacceptable. We need a real, honest, independent investigation into Trump-Russia. In fact I say we need an independent Select Committee at this point, or even a Special Prosecutor who is totally independent from Congress to look into the issue. We need to know exactly what happened and this is a matter of national and global security.

Plan to go to an upcoming Town Hall in your area. There is a recess coming up 4/12 so there should be plenty of Town Halls then.

Einbert,

spaceman Bryce and Dr. Spaceman are different posters.

Oh lol. I was thinking of this Dr. Spaceman:
03-30-2017 , 08:40 PM
Ah. There's a Dr. Spaceman who posts in OOT. He's one of the funniest/most clever posters, if not the funniest, on 2p2.
03-30-2017 , 11:33 PM
That is correct. I was reading today's action plan and realized im leaving on vacation in about 48 hours and im not actually going to do any of it. So ..im ready to join the resistance effective april 9th or 10th. I have some ideas but am having trouble sorting through the insane ones and the good ones atm.
Obviously politics is very polarized right now. In general i don't think the overall world discussion is headed in the right direction.

The Senate just voted 50-49 on this, and there's basically no reason to enact this except as a giveaway to the corporations and the lobbyists. It's a rule that allows people to have their own retirement accounts (sort of like a 401k) funded through their state. About 12 million people are already saving for their retirement in this kind of account as we speak. It's a very popular thing that businesses like (because it's cheaper for them than providing a 401k), employees like it (everybody needs to save to retire) and states like it as it helps their businesses and employees. Now Republicans in Congress want to get rid of these retirement accounts, enacted under President Obama, for basically no reason at all other than "go **** yourself America." This is an issue that's not getting a lot of attention right now and it is EXTREMELY close, so we can actually make the difference and tip the scales here. Call your Representative and Senators and tell them to oppose this nonsense.

Senate votes to eliminate Obama-era retirement rule

Marches and rallies will be held in over 100 cities in 40+ states, plus a few foreign countries. Public protests are important. They do matter, and they do help. It's not just sending a message to Washington, it's sending a message to your local community that this is real life. It's reminding your neighbors that the disastrous Trump administration isn't an abstract thing happening somewhere else, it's a hopelessly dysfunctional and corrupt federal government that is inflicting major damage all across the country, right now. Funding that directly benefits our cities and towns is being cut. Regulations that keep our air and water clean are being eliminated. Families are being torn apart by cruel and arbitrary immigration rules. This is happening, and it is happening locally. We are all being affected.

Effective protests are primarily a numbers game. The most important thing is to just show up. You don't need to chant if you don't want to. You don't even need a sign. All you have to do is set aside a couple hours on a Saturday afternoon and mill about in the crowd, and you'll probably enjoy it. Spend a bit of time away from your Twitter feed and #resist IRL. It's good for you, and it's good for the country.

I'm not sure it is helping that much frankly. Increasingly it looks like a dating venue for hipsters and a pressure cooker to expel dissent harmlessly.

You aren't hurting the Republicans in the wallet. That's where protest activities should be focused.

California bros,

Feinstein needs some calls to tell her to filibuster. She is apparently undecided. Harris is cool.

Then what do you propose?

What people really mean when they say "protests don't help" is that they have absurdly unrealistic expectations. Like they want their one-time participation to be the ultimate game changing moment that sparks a revolution, our plucky band of dissidents stand shoulder to shoulder on a hill with pride as a brand new dawn rises over the newly freed landscape below. Roll credits.

That's not how the real world works. It takes an enormous amount of sustained effort over a long period of time to affect change. It isn't some wild coincidence that so much of the enacted policy in this country directly reflects the wishes of those most active in politics - namely old white people. The biggest secret that the Washington insiders and corporate lobbyists don't want you to know is that democracy actually works when people can be bothered to participate. Disaffected non-participants are their best ally.

There isn't One Weird Trick to taking down the Trump administration. He doesn't have a missing scale on his belly like Smaug. There's a chance he won't be taken down at all, and even if he is we'll be left with Pence or maybe Ryan. There won't be a final boss to defeat, there will just be further battles. If there is any hope to make headway in those battles it is going to require the active participation of the chronically absent left and the criminally apathetic middle.

Going to a protest is an opportunity to get involved and do something. There will be people there representing the few groups who do fight back, looking for allies, handing out literature. They need your help, and you need them, because they are the people who have been pushing for the right causes for decades.

Vote, in every election. Contact your elected officials, frequently. Pay attention to local politics. And Saturday the 15th, spend an hour or two of your precious time to show up at this event in person and get involved.

Or you can continue to watch from the sidelines and be outraged on the internet that your team keeps losing.

I won't be going to this one, but nonetheless @zikzak never stop doing what you're doing.
