Now the polls are accurate, got it:

Argues that the US constitutional checks and balances are vulnerable to a threat such as the one posed by Trump.

This leaves us with the one true defense we have ... : civil society’s vigilance and protest.

Kind of funny how people who are experts at losing elections think they know how to make change happen too. Republicans have gained over 1,000 seats nationwide (including state seats) over the last 8 years, some of you need to check your smugness and learn how to start resonating! Until then, just expect more of the same.

This is the most smug post in the thread.

I disagree but maybe I read the tone wrong in the posts I was replying to and also my tone could have came across more harsh than I intended. There was definitely some smugness in my post but also a dose of realism that liberals need to find a way to change their ways to become relevant again. You don't think losing 1,000 seats might be cause to take a step back and figure out what can be done more effectively going forward? 4 years ago I was saying the democrats would never lose another presidential election again unless the republican party was replaced with a more moderate party especially when it comes to social issues. How did this happen? Stop blaming others and try to figure out what you can do better.

If you're thinking you'd like to do something, but you're not sure what and the inauguration protests sound a bit hairy, this is the thing to do. These are permitted gatherings that will be very safe and family friendly. Everybody is welcome. You don't need a pussyhat.

I don't understand the protests. Trump won. He's going to be president. He's not going to randomly be thrown out because....protest. Serious question: What are these protesters hoping to achieve?

I'll say that I don't want him to be president and I despise him but I'm still just very curious why this is happening.

Republicans are about to do a lot of things that most people (including a lot of trump voters) won't like. The protests are to show displeasure and they're an attempt to get our leaders to rethink some of their plans.

Thank you, jt.

Is there any link to specific issues? I googled but it's all littered with is anti-Trump inauguration protest stuff.

Even the Chicago protests only mention Trump

I'm going to the Women's march on Saturday. I think I'm going to this on Friday. I'm not a Green party member or a Woman, just a guest at both.

My point was you don't know how to make change happen because if you did you would be getting people elected, which you have not. Stating you don't care about elections shows how ignorant you are. The protests actually help the republicans as most people disagree with them.

i'm not really sure if i'd have the balls to do it, but i think i'd be comfortable attempting a slow drive through. of course if someone dives under my tires i'm giving it up, but i think 99%+ people just push on the hood for a sec and then jump aside.
For real, why is encouraging people to commit vehicular assault not worthy of a day off?

For real people encouraging protestors to act like that should get a day off. Blocking traffic and/or pedestrians is a crime. There were not enough protesters there to warrant a street closure they should have been on the sidewalks with signs. Also saying someone moving 2 mph that anyone can get out the way of as assault is pretty lol. The people who banged on the car were much more aggressive. The right to peaceful assembly does not mean you can do whatever you want and hold other people hostage against their will.
