A lot of the GOP agrees with the administration on the NSA, Rand Paul being the notable exception.

Right. Unfortunately he holds some pretty unpopular positions such as "believes the Civil Right Act and Voting Rights Act should be repealed." That should go well in the debates.

I'm no fan my nightmare scenario is Paul v Warren in 2016 where I would vote for the person least likely to be effective. I do appreciate his voice on the NSA and to a lesser extent immigration.

Paul vs Warren is like -10000000000000000000

This is like the one scenario where we'd finally have each party candidate against the big banks and you're against it. *sigh*

They won't find it, but it won't stop them from spinning his quotes as saying as much.

One out of every 20 or so people might find an anti-WS agenda unacceptable. You have met that one

lol you have no idea what was said, and hint: he never said it and has explicitly said the opposite.

Serious bizness time, when Mike McD said "But there are others, like Doyle Brunson, who consider No-Limit the only pure game left", what pure games that used to exist was he talking about? 5 card draw? And did Doyle actually say that?

Mikey was a degenerate cheat and colluder **** him.

What Rand Paul said.

Now to anyone who's been on the forum a while knows the position Paul is alluding to. Namely that he himself isn't a racist and, in fact, would advocate against racism if he were to live in those times. But private property is so sacred that he would be worried about the ramifications of the federal government intruding on a person's right to do with their land as they pleased.

Now Paul didn't mention it but I'll fill out. Given that racism isn't economically viable racists would soon only be a niche market and we'd live in a multicultural utopia with a few racist restaurants here and there, if only the damn federal government hadn't got in the way.

Now it just so happens there were a group of people who thought private property was sacred so the government had no fight to intrude. Some of them even lamented the existence of the harsh racism in the South, but we know how they voted. And it wasn't for the CRA.

O RLY

very long analysis:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/...90a4_blog.html

money quote:

Quote:
PAUL: I like the Civil Rights Act in the sense that it ended discrimination in all public domains, and I’m all in favor of that.
INTERVIEWER: But?
PAUL: You had to ask me the "but." I don't like the idea of telling private business owners — I abhor racism. I think it’s a bad business decision to exclude anybody from your restaurant — but, at the same time, I do believe in private ownership. But I absolutely think there should be no discrimination in anything that gets any public funding, and that’s most of what I think the Civil Rights Act was about in my mind.
INTERVIEWER: But under your philosophy, it would be okay for Dr. King not to be served at the counter at Woolworth’s?
PAUL: I would not go to that Woolworths, and I would stand up in my community and say that it is abhorrent, um, but, the hard part — and this is the hard part about believing in freedom — is, if you believe in the First Amendment, for example — you have to, for example, most good defenders of the First Amendment will believe in abhorrent groups standing up and saying awful things and uh, we're here at the bastion of newspaperdom, I'm sure you believe in the First Amendment so you understand that people can say bad things. It’s the same way with other behaviors. In a free society, we will tolerate boorish people, who have abhorrent behavior, but if we're civilized people, we publicly criticize that, and don't belong to those groups, or don't associate with those people.

tl; dr:

he has waffled on this almost as much as Romney on abortion

But that is the point, no-one is confused here but you.

A much bigger issue than Paul's appeal to white supremacy is the fact that he's just dumb as a box of rocks. He's going to make Rick Perry's debate performance look like Aaron Sorkin dialogue once he gets into something competitive.
07-12-2014 , 07:30 PM
Right... on one hand, we have Rand Paul talking about parts of the CRA he isn't comfortable with. On the other, we have Rand Paul specifically saying he doesn't want to repeal the CRA.

Conclusion: Rand Paul wants to repeal the CRA. - lol liberals.

I'm sure the fine black voters of America will appreciate the fine distinctions of Rand Paul's musings on the CRA
07-12-2014 , 07:36 PM
Next he can tell black people Republicans are the party of Lincoln and Emancipation. He hasn't done that already has he? If he is, can someone stop him? Oh it's too late? Oh well.

ikes who exactly do you think that **** fools? We all see the paeans to Goldwater and the echoes of Wallace in Paul's rhetoric. The Civil Rights era wasn't that long ago.

I get that you like him, but let's just say outspoken defenders of George Zimmerman may not have their finger on the pulse of the chattering classes

This is by far the most odd criticism of Paul I've heard. Most political commentators have said repeatedly what a good speaker and debater he is. You simply are not watching him in action or not looking at his political skills in non-biased manner.
07-12-2014 , 07:39 PM
fly who exactly do you think your **** fools?

Thanks for providing the reassuring irony though. Feel free to continue complaining about others lying and exaggerating bad things about Obama.
