I made it pretty clear to my Mom where I stood on Trump when he first started making headway. I think that might have tipped the scales for her to go over to #NeverTrump. I really should reward her by calling more.

I was taken aback too.

I called her out on it stating if a person is knowledgeable then one should listen to them (obviously was more tactful than that).

My mother doesn't think deeply about things like this. She's capable of doing so but seems content to just confirm the bias she was instilled with rather than exert the effort needed to form a nuanced view.

That seems to be the case among most middle-aged people I know both at home and abroad. They are raised with a certain set of values and just stick to them like glue even as time changes.

I apologize if my post came across as targeting your mom. That wasn't my intention at all. It was more of a general criticism of the horrendously flawed logic I've seen that I think leads people to believe and say these types of things.
