The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns. The Presidency of Donald J. Trump: No smocking guns.

The problem is too that if Sessions met with the Russians in a capacity of a US Senator that no other senator of his committee has met with the Russians in forever. Makes it look extremely fishy.

Anyone who reads or hears the exchange between Franken and Sessions and comes away with any conclusion other than, "Sessions clearly lied there," is just hopelessly, laughably stupid.

As a libertarian I'm fine with Sessions leaving in any way possible. He's terrible for civil rights, he's terrible for drug laws.

Agreed 100%

Civil rights, drug laws, privacy.

But also, lying to Congress.

I do have a hard time imagining he'd be replaced with anyone better, but, can't go much further down.

They have been accused of attempting to hack into party servers and communication, and then releasing DNC communication to Wikileaks via proxy. Various reports have indicated that this coincided with a possible shift at top levels in Moscow - the same sources claim that this shift was towards interfering directly with the US election. These dates also happen to coincide with contact between the Trump campaign and Russian officials. We know now that Flynn, a WH advisor and party to Trump's campaign, discussed sanctions specifically with the Russian ambassador to the US. The same person that Session met, and Session later under oath stated that he had no contact with Russian officials.

Russian hacking outlet "Fancy Bear" has been pointed at by CyberSecurity firms as the likely culprit behind the hacking. They have a trail leading to GRU (Russian military intelligence), amongst other things in Ukraine where they hacked mobile apps used by Ukrainian artillery forces. They were also behind what was most likely a state-sponsored effort to discredit WADA's report on systematic russian doping efforts for athletes.

There is no clear conclusion to be drawn yet, but it is looking very, very ugly at this point. The question to be investigated now is if this evidence points towards collusion, or if we're "merely" looking at Russian attempt at destabilization that exploited and / or coincided with amateurish behavior from the Trump campaign.

They're not stupid. They know he's lying. For example, in the subtext of BMOL's comments is the theme of "Yeah, we know. But you can't do anything about it." That's called fascism.

Also the veneer of their denial is so thin you could make grits with it.

First comes denial

He answered no and as far as I know there is no way the public knows of right now at least to discount that. Had he been strictly asked if he had any contact whatsoever regarding anything then we would have a problem
Then anger

Next bargaining

Yeah, that's the usual pattern. Tsao will first ask for the basic facts and then start workshopping reasons why it's nbd if the Attny General perjured himself. And then he'll fall back to griping about Obama droning some kid.

In case you missed it this morning, Morning Joe was playing this exchange between Paul Manafort and CBS on loop. Look at this lolworthy response when asked whether Trump has any financial relationships with Russian oligarchs.

See if you can spot the lie

Trump did ask for a hack.

“I will tell you this, Russia: If you’re listening, I hope you’re able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing,” the Republican nominee said at a news conference in Florida. “I think you will probably be rewarded mightily by our press.”

I know it's LOL Emails but Trump was willing to do anything to make HC look bad.

I'd ask when HastenDan did this but you'd probably just lie about the timeline.

There's like two seconds of stunned silence on the part of the interviewer, like she's thinking, "Did I really just hear that?"

It's a matter of public record that Trump asked Russia to hack Hillary and interfere with the U.S. election:

There's actually like 300% more plausible deniability there than Sessions could possibly hope to have.

Sessions responded, “Senator Franken, I’m not aware of any of those activities. I have been called a surrogate at a time or two in that campaign and I did not have communications with the Russians, and I’m unable to comment on it.”

so which version is the right one guys?
Im pretty sure context matters even in english language.
if the tweet is the right version comment on it.
Pretty sure nothing will come out of this (unfortunately)if the tweet quote is the right one.

Both are correct. The tweet is a written answer, the Franken-Sessions exchange was verbal testimony.

It's two different conversations. Neither is "right", both happened.

The second quote where Sessions clearly lies is on video and can be seen on CNN if you go to their website, or even linked to in this thread.
